Why is a horse trip/fall cut out of films but every week we can see horses falling and, quite often, breaking legs trying to jump fences deliberately made too high, on TV for our gambling addicted?
It seems a double standard that utilizes the British law on animal cruelty only when it suits those who enforce these double standards. But I guess millions of pounds gained every day from betting has more sway than a director making a film. | I hate horse racing and horse falls in films, but I guess the difference is the horses in films are tripped deliberately with the rider pulling on the 'figure of eight' wire around the horse's legs to bring down the animal, which is different to a horse failing to land without injury during a race.
As you alluded to, both are done for entertainment – I won't even go into the lengths owners will go to in order to ensure an animal races, including superglue on cracked hooves, that is well documented – but the BBFC has no remit over horse racing and animal cruelty unless it is staged for a film! |
