It didn't stop the BBFC cutting The Godfather when it was first released.

Spielberg is also one of Hollywood's most reputable directors, yet both 1941 and Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom also received cuts. Peckinpah was even bigger at the time yet many of his films received BBFC edits, including animal cruelty cuts to Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid - as did Roger Corman's Bloody Mama (which was initially rejected, then cut for violence, and cut for animal cruelty today). Even Clint Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can was (and still is) cut for animal cruelty.

Both Salon Kitty and The Cannibal Man had scenes filmed inside animal slaughterhouses, yet neither were cut for this reason.

Didn't stop them cutting Heaven's Gate either for animal cruelty even though Michael Cimino was a big director after The Deer Hunter. The BBFC's policy on animal cruelty seem pretty clear to me.

Warren Beatty's Reds also received BBFC cuts for animal cruelty. As did the Oscar-winning Glory. Hollywood classics such as The Cincinnati Kid and Return Of The Seven are also treated no differently.

Even literary classics such as Tom Jones and Schlesinger's Far From The Madding Crowd are cut for this reason.

Well there you go.

There are scenes in Holocaust which are proven quick kills and Deodato claims he ' just kept the camera running' so that meets BBFC policy, yet like the turtles head , CUT!

The Other Hell, BBFC passed chickens head cut off, Bloody Moon? BBFC passed snakes head cut off, CH BBFC cut turtles head cut off. CH BBFC cut monky's head cut off.
Were's the clarity there.?

He can claim all he wants but where'e the evidence that
he is telling the truth? You don't want your film to be cut then provide the BBFC with some evidence that what you are saying is true.

Deodato didn't exactly endear himself with his fondness for animals with the earlier Last Cannibal World either. Lenzi was just as bad. Literally ALL of the BBFC cuts to Deep River Savages are to animal cruelty and most of the cuts to Cannibal Ferox are the same. When it comes to animal cruelty they have nothing to be pleased about whatsoever and have no reason to complain when their films are cut for this reason.

John Milius has had non-stop rows with the BBFC over cruel animal treatment in films such as the original Conan, and UK video/DVD releases of The Wind And The Lion are still unavailable for the same reason.

vipco 12th July 2008 11:27 AM

Is that the camel punch scene in Conan.?
That scene was sickening and bang outta order.
At least Deodato and Lenzi had justification for there scenes.

An artist should'nt have to defend their work.

IMO Deodato and Lenzi have nothing to prove, its the censors who have to prove they , Deodato and Lenzi , were lying in their claims, personally I believe in Deodato's.case he was being truthful.
