Great picks from Poundland, I've got CO on BD but it skips a bit and jumps about 7 minutes to clear so I'll spin the £1 dvd without getting aggravated:lol::lol: and SLIH has the 30min doc and other bits too.

iank 27th July 2015 11:45 PM

DVDs arrived:

Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed

8-Horror Movie Pack includes:

Waxwork
976-Evil 2
Ghoulies III
The Unholy
CHUD II
Chopping Mall
Slaughter High (aka Cutting Class)
Class of 1999

Mainly got this for a widescreen copy of Class of 1999, which I love (oh Traci Lin...) and Waxwork, which I've heard a lot about but somehow never seen.

iank 28th July 2015 12:58 AM

Sadly this was false advertising, as Class of 1999 is still $^@#$^@ fullscreen.
And Slaughter High is apparently a completely different film to Cutting Class, in spite of having the exact same poster.

Can't say I've ever seen Cutting Class use the Slaughter High poster unless it was a foreign poster. Still a great film IMO.

Frankenhooker 28th July 2015 06:22 AM

Isn't Slaughter High the film with Terry from Emmerdale ?

It's good fun if I recall.

I preferred to think of it as the film with Caroline Munro but, yes, it also apparently includes a guy who went on to appear in Emmerdale.

Overall I'm happy with it so far. :)

After watching this a bit (I fell asleep, tired ;) ) I must admit the 2.0 audio is a bit strangely thunderous in places even leading to distortion of the lows. Not certain if this was originally so or it has been manipulated at some point.

Knowing that Billy Hartman (from Emmerdale) is Scottish, and only ever hearing that accent from him in Highlander, I decided to to a search, see if I could find an interview with him in his native tongue. I found something cringeworthy instead. A 1979 tv music show with him as the host, putting on a terrible hybrid American/Scottish twang.

I know part 2 is the R-rated cut but £9.17 for 2-4 was still damned tempting. Bought 1 as well to go with them. Part 5 is hugely dear on Blu however so will keep my DVD for the time being.

When you get the sequel set K maybe you would be so kind as to confirm region status?
I'm aware the case says region A but reviews on Amazon are suggesting that this may not be correct.

Sure thing.

fuzzymctiger 29th July 2015 06:53 AM

Won two passes to the Melbourne International Film Festival, and redeemed them to buy tickets for a screening of Quentin Tarantino's personal 35mm print of Dark Age, a hard to see Australian killer croc movie, and the new 4K restoration of Tokyo Olympiad.

According to Bluray.com it's A and B (C untested but probable as the individual discs are confirmed as region free over there).

Bronson Triple Threat Collection Blu-ray: Death Wish 2, Death Wish 3, Death Wish: The Crackdown

J Harker 29th July 2015 10:23 AM

Thanks bdc.
I'm just going to mention this here too because I'm not sure people always check the bargain threads.

It's a good find Trebor. They are very low budget. I have a couple on vhs still. To be honest they aren't very good but could fetch a high price if sold to the right person.

I'd say that's my least favourite adaption of Phantom, but I do intend on picking it up at some point. It's just a little dull and not one of Hammers best IMO

plasterface 29th July 2015 06:47 PM

buys

watched repo man it was ok, probs needs a rewatch .
from Hmv got tromeo and juliet on blu, anthropophagous on dvd, prefer absurd myself but interested in 42nd street doc. got the zero theorem and abcs of death 2 on dvd as part of two for a tenner deal. Aint see zero before but although I cant say I love every Gilliam film , everyone of his films is interesting and you cant say that about many directors. got strawberry, chocolate, vanilla on blu second hand looks interesting. got ginger clown starring Tim Curry from poundland probs crap but you never know. from amazon got motivational growth on region free dvd which stars Jeffrey Combs as talking mould, i was hoping for something akin to brain damage , it is amusing enough but confusing . Book wise I got Thomas " the dudedesigns " Hodge's VHS video cover art which is sublime and journey to the centre of the cramps. Does the labs have a graphic novel thread?

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 29th July 2015 07:27 PM

I actually prefer it to the '43 Universal version of Phantom which I feel is more than a little weak.

I actually rather like The Mummy's Shroud too.

I'm just not fond of Phantom at all really. Although silence is golden.

Apart from the original Karloff and Lee versions mummies don't really excite me much. The Brendan Fraser film was a lot of fun but that was more of an Indiana Jones film than classic mummy movie.
