It's a weird one, like a media book but with a steelbook casing instead of a hardcover book.

My friend did tell me that the Sleepy Hollow 4K UHD only looked a bit better than the copy he sent me. So assuming he's right (he normally is), I guess the folks that are expecting a very dramatic improvement from the 1080p options are gonna be in for a bit of a shock.

Apparently the 1080p version isn't that much better than the dvd either according to what i've heard.

No the blu-ray isn't meant to be great. Why I've never bothered given the dvd is good enough. A decent restoration I'd be interested.

I'll probably end up getting the recent Blu in time for Halloween. Although the picture may not be that larger improvement i'd like to hear the soundtrack in DTS 5:1 rather than simply Dolby Digital.

Justin101 14th September 2023 07:45 PM

I have the digital 4k on my Apple account and it’s miles better than the old Blu-ray. But it’s not a reference quality 4k by any means. So if there is a new Blu it should look great.

From the cover it looks like a top shelf parody of Indiana Jones.

Indiana Bones Raiders of the lost Arse

Picked up a German blu-ray release of Watchers II. Limited to 777 copies.

Unlike the Scream Factory release which had both fullscreen & widescreen versions, this just has the fullscreen version. Not a big deal, as it was released straight to video.

I also ordered this one, and early delivery is very welcome :D

Nuno_Miranda 18th September 2023 06:38 PM

Today was like Christmas, a lot of stuff arrived at the same time:

https://i.imgur.com/oTUkuuv.jpg

Of all these, Girls Nite Out is not from today, but I wasn't sure if I had posted. It was a gift from Arrow because they mistakenly sent this instead of Six Gothic Tales. I offered to return it, they kindly let me keep it.

I have very high hopes for the remaster of Invaders from Mars.

The Sherlock Holmes Vault is chock-full of odds and ends to savour over this Winter. The game is afoot! :D

La piéce de résistance is the Empire of Screams boxed set. So many memories of Friday-night VHS rentals. Most of these I haven't watched since those days. Robot Jox is a favourite of mine. Time to retire the old DVD copy.

Last but not least, two 3D treasures, The Maze (1953) and Dynasty (1977). I've been meaning to ask: do we have a 3D-dedicated thread somewhere? I've looked but didn't find.

Thanks for reading!

The Exorcist

3 Attachment(s)
The new 4K Ultra HD set arrived yesterday from HMV containing four discs: the Original Theatrical Version and the Extended Director's Cut on both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.

I sampled the 4K Ultra HD discs of both the theatrical version and director's cut and the AV quality is outstanding with vibrant colours, deep black levels, high detail, and Dolby Atmos tracks that are clear and immersive.

I have seen The Exorcist more times than I can count and there are sounds I have never heard before coming from all around the room – I'm looking forward to closing the curtains, dimming the lights, and watching the theatrical version later this week.

Justin101 19th September 2023 06:21 PM

I popped into HMV on the way home to pick up The Exorcist and it was sold out, I'll check again next week.

Justin101 19th September 2023 06:56 PM

Had Gothic on pre-order from Amazon but at 5:30 today they still hadn’t charged for me it or dispatched it even though it’s in stock I cancelled the order and bought it in HMV. the Rollin arrived today though.

This is why i've given up pre-ordering the majority of things.

The delivery dates are usually days and some cases a week after the items are released.

They're definitely getting worse, the Rollin the charged my card in the early hours on Saturday but didn't dispatch it until last night. For Scream and Scream Again, the charged me on Sunday, sent me the dispatch email saying it'll be delivered on Tuesday, which surprised me, then it arrived the Monday anyway.

That's why I preordered it ages ago. However, that was with the intention of going into the store on Monday to buy the deluxe edition, one that is sold out everywhere.

The preorder was fortunate because I was busy yesterday and didn't have the opportunity to go shopping in town, something I'll only be able to do at the end of the week.

Nordicdusk 20th September 2023 12:39 PM

My mate text me said he has two black sacks full of films his girlfriends ex left behind before he moved out of the country so he is going to drop them to me after work today hopefully it's not two bags of shite.

Justin101 20th September 2023 12:45 PM

If it were me they'd be a job lot of Bridget Jones Diary dvd's. If it were Trebor it would be the entire Vinegar Syndrome catalogue.

I saw there was a limited edition Terminator steel case in the photo he sent me so that was enough to get me interested. :lol

If they were my mates films I would of told him where to go he sucks

Demdike@Cult Labs 20th September 2023 02:40 PM

Just been looking at The Exorcist 4K in Asda. I was sorely tempted. I'm always sorely tempted by nice slip covers.

Sense prevailed as i doubt the Blu-ray copy is different to the one i currently own.

Or is it?

Actually, Nos. If you read this can you compare the Blu in this set with the current UK release, please?

I reckon it's exactly the same because all the Americans are complaining that they don't get the blurays and therefore no extra features as the 4k only has the film on it. Which means they'll have to keep the BD.

I'll add The Exorcist on to the ever increasing list of blu's i bought and never watched  I got that 6 film set that has the sequels and prequels in it. Never put a single one of those 6 discs in my player

I have a problem.

Was it T2? I have the Skynet edition in a steelbook, it's about 10-12 years old now and still the best looking version of the film you can get because Cameron turned it into the Terminator of the Wax Museum

I didn't know about that set. Even had Exorcist III on it? I take it was before Arrow got their mitts on it?

I'd quite like that set if it has Dominion and Exorcist II on it.

You're crazy not watching them.

It does have all of those on it.

I promise I’ll watch them haha. If it makes it any better it was only something like £15 in HMV, the good old days.

Some good films there.

Blow, Parker, and The Woman in Black are excellent. Unknown is really good fun as well. Plus you can't really go wrong with The Transporter films can you or Christmas Vacation. All films i've upgraded to Blu

I love the Top Gear Adventures as well. Three total idiots.

The Blu-ray discs in the set are the same as those previously released, so it was best that sense prevailed and you didn't buy something you don't need.

From Cex. The sticker said £10 but it scanned as £15. Anyway it was honoured so a bit of a bargain. If a tenner's a bargain.

Anyway, one for the October watch pile.

CEX are good at that!

I've recently got 'The Boys Next Door' [101 films, limited edition set] stickered at £6:00, scanned at £10:00 and the Arrow 'Cold War Creatures' box set stickered at £22:00 and scanned at £28:00

Both titles I got for the cheaper price

I really enjoyed the Cold War Creatures box set. Especially The Giant Claw, i thought it was really good for all it's flaws.

Although my laptop is *supposed* to be able to play DVD's and Blu-Rays, it is very temperamental when it comes to BR discs, and only plays about 10% of what I have got

Because of this, I will have to wait until I get a 'proper' home where I can set up a television and media player to be able to watch 'The Boys Next Door' and 'Cold War Creatures' (and the complete 'Star Wars' set, 'The Guns Of Navarone', 'Child's Play 1 – 7', 'The Last Broadcast', 'The Troll Collection', 'Pink Flamingos' / 'Divine Trash', 'Town On Trial', 'Night Of Demon / Curse Of Demon', the 'Sinbad' set, the 'Norman J Warren' set, 'Roadgames', 'William Castle Vol 2', the 'Fu Manchu' set and about 100 Arrow titles!)
