From Amazon US. ?20 for the first eight Saw films on Blu. Perfect for me as i already have the ninth film in the series Spiral and will get Saw X when i've rewatched all these.

Pleasing as i now have a good chunk of newly created shelf space.

It looks like a chunky one to me, around the size of 2 normal boxes.

I've got the Saw box set on DVD, I've still only watched the first 2 of them

J Harker 9th March 2024 01:52 PM

I've got the first four individually on dvd. Never upgraded. Not sure why to be honest as I enjoy them all and thought the first one was excellent.

I do 'like' the 2 I've seen, but I'm never in the mood to watch people being tortured

Yes, that's correct.

J Harker 9th March 2024 10:17 PM

Still a space saver. Mind me asking what's the region coding Dem?

Certainly. According to the reverse of the box it's regions A,B and C.

The UK set with the same films is eighteen quid more.

As for space saver? yes, but not as much as i thought because i'm keeping Saw IV with it's excellent saw blade action and Jigsaw voice saying "The Games have only just begun"

I was surprised it still worked.

I have that exact one. Every intention of keeping it myself. I nearly began my last post mentioning that. Thanks Dem.

Here's a blurry image of the reverse. The first seven are A,B & C but Jigsaw is just region A.

Madness.

Edit. Just realised. All the dvds are in the box as well, so you can still watch Jigsaw as a dvd version.

J Harker 9th March 2024 10:59 PM

Thanks Dem. Odd but not that unusual I suppose.

I've seen it the once. Can't remember it very well, to be honest I recall being a bit underwhelmed. I think I was a bit distracted though, can't remember but I'm sure there was something going on.
Regardless I'm pretty sure it was me not the film and I've been wanting to watch it again for a while.

I was underwhelmed. It was fairly hyped at the time. Brian Cox is always good but the film was unexceptional really.

Did i give it a good review or something?

I think i was getting it confused with The Possession of Hannah Grace which is also set in a hospital morgue. My mistake.

Might give it a second viewing in a little while.

Like i said. The Possession of Hannah Grace is basically the same film but nowhere near as good.

I've just watched it. Thoroughly enjoyed it on my own in the dark without distractions.

I remember liking The Autopsy of Jane Doe a lot, mostly due to the claustrophobic settng, story, and quality performances from Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch.

Susan Foreman 12th March 2024 06:58 PM

Had to go shopping this afty (TCP, bread, frozen red onions & a cucumber), so a walk into Orpington town was called for (just over 2 miles there, just over 2 miles back - round trip of 4.5 miles)

Got to town and found myself at CEX, which is a bit off-the-beaten track, so I had a quick look inside. I think that CEX is now incredible expensive. They *used* to have cheap bargains, but now it seems like they are pricing themselves out. (Even Chloe had mentioned that their prices have rocketed). Anyway... I had a quick look through their Blu-Ray section and the only thing that they had of any interest was the Powerhouse release of 'The Legacy', price marked at ?8

"That's interesting," I though. "If the Powerhouse version has now been deleted, it might be worth something in the future". So I decided to carry on and do my shopping, but to take enough money out of the hole-in-the-wall to get what I needed AND the disc on my way back

Shopping done, and I returned to CEX. Yes, it was still there so I picked it up. Then the heavens opened, and I thought I''m buggered if I'm going out in this, so I had a look around the rest of the stock in store. Nothing in the DVD section. Nothing in the children's section. Nothing in the television section. Nothing in the world film section. Nothing in the WWE section. Nothing in the music sec... wait a moment! What is that? *THAT* turned out to be the 3-disc version of Motorhead's 'The World Is Ours, Vol 2' (1xDVD, 2xCD) for ?8.

I checked how much money I had, and it came to ?14 and change. "Damn," I thought. "Have to use my card again" (which I don't like doing twice in one day)

Anyway, I took both 'The Legacy' and 'The World Is Ours' to the counter, and praise de lawd... CEX didn't let me down - it seems that 'The Legacy' has been reduced to ?6, and they hadn't bothered to change the price sticker !

As I was leaving the shop, I wondered to myself how many sales they have lost through items being reduced but still having the old stickers on them

Demdike@Cult Labs 12th March 2024 08:19 PM

Nice pick ups Susan. I have the Motorhead dvd. It's excellent even if there is a lot of track repetition.

Maybe, but when the tracks are classic 'bangers like 'Iron Fist', 'Killed By Death', 'Ace Of Spades', 'Overkill', 'The Chase Is Better Than The Catch' and 'Going To Brazil'... I don't mind !

Justin101 12th March 2024 10:08 PM

CEX prices fluctuate almost daily, it's worth going in often even if it's the same stock because you might find it cheaper than the last time, and sometimes more expensive though  Obviously it's over 4 miles walk there and back again I might think twice

It's my daily exercise

Gets me out of the 'house' and gives me time to think

Justin101 14th March 2024 02:02 PM

Three from CEX including the limited edition The Great Silence, which I was annoyed about missing out on when it first came out, art cards and poster included. Annoyingly the slip cover of Gregory's Girl was torn underneath the price sticker, I wouldn't have bought it had I known, but I'll get over it, it was ?10 cheaper than the one they have in HMV. Might throw the slipcover away if it bothers me (sacrilege I know)

Looks like someone has sold loads of their Eureka collection into the Liverpool shop.

That's been in my Cex for a while now. Think it's only three or four quid. Not one I've seen.

I also thought A Black Veil for Lisa is good and a film I like.

The same goes for The Girl with All the Gifts, an atmospheric, tense, and thought-provoking sci-fi/horror with assured direction and very good performances from Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close, and Paddy Considine. I was also impressed by the young actress Sennia Nanua in this, her first feature film.

A couple of big orders from Zavvi in the Disney/Pixar 4K Ultra HD sale and some from the BBC's greatest films of the 21st-century which I didn't previously own.

Some great purchases there, especially in the Disney category

'The Princess And The Frog' is a good movie - very scary and disturbing for something from 'The House Of Mouse' !

Thanks. I love all of them, some more than others, and already own. I chose to upgrade them as they were effectively about ?5 each and think they will look and sound much better upscaled to 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos.

I agree with you about The Princess and the Frog which is, for a family film, thematically quite dark and potentially unsettling. I like it because it's a relatively rare hand drawn film, a style that is quite unusual among all the films made by computer animation.

I keep meaning to buy Toni Erdmann myself, from the clips I've seen it looks great, darkly funny black humour, in that awkward situation way.

I've never seen it but it does look good and proof that, contrary to stereotype, Germans do have a sense of humour!

when a black veil for Lisa was released I was going to get it then it turned out it was the US cut so it was 7 minutes shorter than the original Italian cut so that put me off.
