I've never heard of Beautiful Thing but i have heard of it's director Hettie Macdonald. She directed Blink. One of the most acclaimed Doctor Who episodes of all time.

That Blu of The Card Player.

I'll play you at online poker for it.

I don't know how to play poker so I will decline haha, it was ?6.12 from momox on Amazon so just just keep your eyes out for it.

Beautiful Thing is a very heartwarming tale of two teenage boys falling in love on a council estate in the 90's. It makes me cry every time, watched it about 100 times, I can't believe that the BFI disc released this week is it's first time on bluray!

I won't be watching it until Christmas.

Nah, just kidding. I thought it would be the perfect Easter horror and intend to watch it next weekend.

Two more from HMVs 88 promotion. I've had my eye on Night of the Demon for ages but I can never seem to commit. Fancied Dr Sadism and Dem managed to sell me on Candle for the Devil.Attachment 250426

I hope you enjoy them both. No reason why not really. ;)

After watching this from a DVD last week on a train to Scotland I immediately went online and bought the bluray from Amazon.com which just arrived in less than a week, great stuff. This version also contains the lesser seen Theatrical cut which is Hawks' preferred version.

Only cost me 2 quid more than a UK Criterion costs!

Taking advantage of the Arrow Sale for a change and picked up a couple of box sets I?ve had my eye on. Planning to watch the westerns this weekend.

Wanted the Lukas Moodysson one since it first came out but I didn?t like the packaging with the plastic slipcover and the large box, so very glad to have this budget stripped down version.

Happy to find this set in Cex. 2 outright classics, one great film, one new to me and one I'm willing to give a second chance.
I'd overlooked this set many time when it was widely available. Now it seems to be going for around ?35.Attachment 250498

At least tell us what the actual films are!

Justin101 31st March 2024 01:13 PM

I'm curious to know what the 2nd chance film, and wondering if it's The Searchers.

Pale Rider
The Wild Bunch
Rio Bravo
How The West Was Won
The Searchers

Correct Justin. I watched it about 10 years ago I think. Given its reputation i expected something grittier and frankly found it a bit silly.

Nice. I'm looking forward to watching Mission: impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One (an extremely clunky title) at home, but will probably pay extra for the 4K Ultra HD release.

It's one of those films which is best seen on the biggest screen available and with the volume as high as possible!

The Mangler (1995)

One of those films where the concept is daft as a brush - a possessed industrial laundry press which needs the blood of virgins - but it works mainly thanks to a great relationship between Ted Levine's cop and Daniel Matmor as his demonologist brother-in-law as well as an OTT but fun performance by Robert Englund sporting state of the art crutches.

There's a lot of gore and dark humour among all the craziness and i just found it so much fun and had a blast watching it.

I went to HMV this morning and bought two relatively new releases for GBP30 - I thoroughly enjoyed both of them at the cinema and I'm looking forward to watching them again.

A couple of purchases from the local Air Ambulance shop. Yet again Milly spoiled to death in there. I look at discs and she wanders round the place carrying her lead in her mouth getting patted and scratched by folk and then given dog treats.

This weeks new arrivals.

Model Shop was a complete blind buy. I'd never heard of it until a few days ago. It sounds an intriguing movie about life in late 60's L.A.

Thank God it has reversible artwork as that cover is f*cking atrocious.
