If you see the words 'a man's suit', you know exactly what it is, and a woman's suit was, and I believe still is, the same but with a skirt instead of trousers, hence why the term 'trouser suit' is used.
I can see the description sticking around until all women everywhere no longer wear skirts as part of formal attire, something which won't happen for a long, long time – if ever. |
