I don't dispute that Harry Brown is well made and will freely admit that Michael Caine's performance is very good, with enough nuance and menace to make the titular character fully rounded. What I didn't like was – and this is the case with almost all vigilante films – was portraying the police as feckless, uncaring, and generally useless.

There are undoubtedly some cases where law enforcement has been found wanting, but (and I realise this isn't the filmmakers job) criticising hard-working professionals when they are already overworked, underpaid and underappreciated is going to do little to change the situation.

The Eastwood films were among the first ones i bought when dvd was born.

It does indeed! I bought the Japanes blu which uses that country's poster art because all the European blu-ray covers were piss-poor, and I expected the US cover would be equally as bad when it was eventually released over there, then they surprised us!
