'Plan 9' is one of my all-time favorite films, and I really do not believe that it deserves all the criticism that it has got over the years

I remember watching Plan 9 when I was young and thinking what a pile of poop, then as I grew up (ha!) my tastes became more obscure as I realised that mainstream tastes are the ones that sucked, this iconic film then crept back into my 'like' bucket!

Had to go 'shopping' today(sigh) so made a detour and spent £5 on these. McBain is the pre Arrow release, but only £1.
Never really sat down and watched Amityville before, so day turned out okay.

I actually rank as one of his highest, as he finally does a really good thriller, without really trying to push all the giallo and out there stuff like his last couple of films before that.

Example being Trauma and Stendahl Syndrome, which I rank as his 2 worst movies.

keirarts 28th December 2012 06:40 AM

I actually liked the card player, though It always felt more like an old master craftsman doing a tv movie rather than a proper slice of cinema. Compared to giallo its a masterpiece, though I maintain sleepless is the best of his modern movies.

Trauma is deeply flawed but interesting and Stendahl has a great first 50 minutes but then loses steam quickly. Oddly I found I really enjoyed pelts!

A few deliverys turned up today to cheer me up a little,

SOUTHERN COMFORT BLU-RAY. Looked a bit iffy at first but skimming through it to check its quality it looks damnned fine indeed!

Don't answer the phone. The Katerina disc from scorpion is a definate improvement over the previous releases. Looks great!

Satllone box set. Cobra, assasins, tango and cash, Specialist AND demolition man for 7.99.. bargain. Thank the lord for cheap ass studios they have simply put the american discs out here with 18 certs on them so COBRA IS UNCUT AND HAS THE COMMENTARY. Will look forward to this one!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 28th December 2012 04:54 PM

Things happen for a reason. You're gonna land on your feet real soon.;)

I watched DEATH SHIP today, and I can confirm that's it's region free and looks rather good.
Plus, for the kinkier among us,one of the special features has Katerina dressed as a teacher, speaking with a German accent, translating what the ship is whispering during the film!

Haven't had a chance to check it yet. Got it in five days direct from Raro though which was impressive seeing as Christmas was in the way too. Free DVD with it too!

Brighten up January indeed!

keirarts 28th December 2012 05:15 PM

Can anyone stick a link up to raro's site, I wont be ordering immedaitely but when I get round to it it may be worth buying from the source to save a quid or two.

Today's instore HMV purchases. The Coen's set was £7.50 as they were doing a poorly advertised deal where the cheapest boxset you buy is half price (on any set in the store). Only knew about it when got to the till where I had a great conversation with the staff member about the print quality of the Jaws BD. I always seem to have good experiences in HMV contrary to most.

To borrow a British term, I'm skint but I managed to pick this up. This is the third time I've bought each.

I need the cash right now, so selling it at half what its listed for would be nice. But looking at trailers and reviews I'm actually damnned interested to watch it now.

It's a very good atmospheric horror film, influenced a bit by The Tenant

Got these three for €20

Sam 29th December 2012 04:25 PM

Bought/ordered a few blu-rays post-Xmas -

The Arbor - looks intruiging and less than a fiver on zavvi
The Lost boys trilogy - I know two-thirds of this set is meant to be crap but it was only a tenner in Grainger Games and I traded a few DVDs to get a few quid off.
Sylvester Stallone Collection - bought mainly for 'Cobra' but the remaining films are a bonus and again, it was cheap.
