There's nothing wrong with mainstream; all of those films are superb and on my long lists.

I agree. I mean with Noir you want the likes of Bogart and Mitchum as well as dames to kill for like Bacall and Hayworth.

No love for the likes of Heat, The Grifters, Bound, Collateral, Fargo, Blood Simple, Millers Crossing, Road to Perdition etc.

Out of those, I’ve only seen Heat and Collateral and I’ve never considered them Noir films tbh, both great films though :nod:

I strongly recommend you watch some Coen brothers films - Blood Simple, Miller's Crossing, Fargo, Barton Fink, The Man Who Wasn't There.

I’ve seen a few of their other films (Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Tho? etc) and really like them, so I’m sure I’ll like these too, they’re on the “to watch list” :nod:
