Glad to see that classic Hong Kong action are being released again :)

I was gutted twice, when first Hong Kong Legends, and then Cine Asia went down :(

Let´s hope that they can get some proper HD scans for some Jackie Chan classics, as those and many more, just got SD upscales from Fortune Star over in Hong Kong.

Network will be releasing Nigel Kneale's Quatermass series on Blu!

Quote:

A Limited Edition first run of this Blu-ray will be available in four different coloured sleeves, based on the title colour scheme of each episode. THESE SLEEVES ARE FULFILLED RANDOMLY AND SPECIFIC COLOURS ARE NOT ABLE TO BE ORDERED. Once the Limited Edition sleeves have sold out, the cover design will revert to a standard cover which matches the accompanying DVD release. -

John Mills brings a stoic intensity to the role of Professor Bernard Quatermass in this key piece of British dystopian fiction from visionary writer Nigel Kneale. Unsettling in its vision of a crumbling society coming under alien attack, Quatermass is directed with characteristic style by BAFTA winner Piers Haggard and features the high production values associated with Euston Films. Shot on 35mm, the original negatives have been used for this stunning, brand-new High Definition restoration – a new 5.1 mix from original triple-track audio elements is also presented here alongside the original mono soundtrack.

Bernard Quatermass, former head of the British Rocket Group, lives in seclusion in western Scotland, watching in appalled silence as Britain slowly turns into a vision of violence, gang rule and governmental collapse. A desperate search for his missing granddaughter plunges him into a terrifying situation when he comes to realise that the mass disappearance of thousands of youths is nothing less than the culling of the human species by an unknown alien intelligence...

Special Features:
[] Brand-new 5.1 mix for episodic version
[] Brand-new HD restoration of The Quatermass Conclusion in its original theatrical aspect ratio
[] Music-only tracks for all four episodes
[] Episode recaps
[] Textless titles
[] Image Gallery
[] Booklet by archive TV historian Andrew Pixley

I've never heard of it. However after reading about it on Wiki it certainly sounds interesting to say the least.

Wonder if you took your user name from said film?

Aren't Mr Bongo a bit iffy with their prints?

No I didn't (I chose the name before I had watched the film) but it's certainly very apt!

Mr Bongo's prints are a bit of a mixed bag, however The Hourglass Sanatorium is certainly one of their best ones. For the Blus they will no doubt be using the pre-exisitng Polish masters which will mean Hourglass will look glorious, but Saragossa not so much... I will more than likely stick with my DVD for Saragossa.

I take it the Hourglass dvd from 2012 is good quality?. I might just have to pick it up.

If you're into period themed world cinema with a twist of the bizarre (more than a twist in the case of Hourglass!) then I'd certainly recommend them.

Godewind 4th July 2015 03:27 PM

Just bought Hourglass Sanatorium recently, this sort of surreal horror/fantasy cinema is right up my alley. Like Viy, Saragossa Manuscript, Institute Benjamenta, Fabulous World of Jules Verne, Svankmajer's stuff, etc.

101 films are apparently releasing the first of Chuck Norris' Missing In Action movies in October.
And someone called Signal One Entertainment are putting out Charles Bronsons Mr Majestyk out in September.

The Final Cut DVD of Tales looked very nice, so hopefully the Blu-ray will look great. I hope they don't use those stupid stills from the U.S. TV series that they used on the back of the DVD for the Blu-ray packaging.

They should do a double bill with Vault of Horror – that would be brilliant.

Coming October.

"Obscure classic from the eighties" (Imdb comment)
What used to be a well known 80's film now seems largely forgotten.
Without a doubt the movie would be a great deal more serious (and no fun to watch at all) if made now.
Personally I'm not a huge fan but I can't say it's a bad film though, certainly an "obscure classic". ;)

This "obscure" film's soundtrack features the hit! song "This Is Not America" which was written and performed by Bowie and the Pat Metheny Group.

Definitely! I'm surprised the BFI haven't released their uncut print of Vault of Horror on to DVD/Blu-ray. I would get the Scream Factory Tales/Vault Blu but I don't have a multi-region BD player.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 30th July 2015 10:38 AM

All MGM, I would so like to request some titles but I doubt they will be part of the package deal. ;)

I wouldn't be suprised to see them release more of the stuff that Kino has in the works for the rest of this year too.

See if they have a website or facebook page, I know some of those smaller labels love requests and ideas.

Even Arrow always seem happy to take suggestions, so long as it's not The Burning, or the Peter Jackson films :tongue1:

It might have been had the cover not been badly censored (according to a certain forum)

Besides which the Japanese Happinet is still the version to get as far as the transfer and extras go

Unless I'm missing something, it isn't censored.

I'm no expert on original poster art. I think it looks a nice steelbook. Simples!

Rik 2nd August 2015 07:49 PM

Me too, I pre-ordered it after I'd seen your post. I'm well aware that the Japanese blu is the best to go for (if you can play Region A blu's), but I do like that artwork and the SC blu is the best UK edition we're likely to get.

J Harker 2nd August 2015 07:52 PM

I can't afford it at the moment so I'm just hoping this one is available for a little while.
