Thinking of giving Guillermo Del Torro's Cronos a whirl tonight, anyone seen it?

A rarity in this day and age, a genuinely origional take on the vampire myth. No sparkling or anything!

Frightening to think Cronos was made 20 years ago  I still think of it as a relatively recent film . . .

Tonights film was Manborg (German blu) from those lovely enthusiasts over at Astron 6. This is a low budget/budget throw back to early 80's action films. You can read more about this over on my Diary thread where I reviewed the film after seeing it at Toronto After Dark

The extras are English friendly.

I know what you mean, Jack, I remember it being reviewed on the Beeb's Film 1993 and thinking "WOW. That looks stunning!" I don't think that I was wrong, was I?

Two Lane Blacktop

Blind buy, bought when the steelbook was cheap. Turns out it's amazing, don't be fooled by all the screen caps of people talking. Awesome cars, awesome races and a very strange but interesting relationship between the racers.
Not sure I liked the ending though.

Gonna give Subspecies a whirl now.

Watched both the new version of Jack The Giant Slayer/Killer and the old 1963 version this week.

I thought the new one was a very descent family fantasy movie. The giants were genuinely scary (for a kids film) and it had many great moments. A little bit mis-cast but still recommended.

As for the original, well, what the hell was that?! Part Jason And The Argonauts, part WTF and part coma-inducing bad drug-fueled trip. An incredibly odd movie and one I'd recommend to ALL Cult film fans! Very very strange. The scenes with the ghost/witch things was some of the oddest scenes I've seen in quite a while and the plot was just nuts. The main villain is a splitting image of Flash Gordon's Ming too. Very camp, very silly and definitely a must for cult-iphilies

Same names - very different movies!

Curious that they chose to advertise Jack the GIANT Killer with a big picture of a DRAGON  Still, it's a damn cool image, and the film sounds like a hoot, Kyle . . .

(also, check the Producers name )

 Torin Thatcher sounds a little bit dodgy too for some reason.

The film only has two giants in, SJ and they're not even that big or scary. But there's a dog-faced dragon, glow-in-the-dark witch-ghost-zombie-things, a Ming impersonator, a tentacle-sea-monster-thingy, a viking, a man in incredibly tight tights... and a chimpanzee. Yeah.
