Antonio Sabato plays Salvatore "Toto" Cangemi, a Sicilian pimp operating in Milan. One of his girls is discovered dead and it quickly becomes apparent that its meant as a message. Roger Daverty, played by Philippe Leroy is the head of a ruthless French gang that wants Toto's gang to begin moving drugs for them. He's not prepared to take no for an answer and is trying to strong arm the Pimp and his gang. This then descends into a ruthless and bloody gang war with plenty of reprisal including a nasty Genital torture scene.
Lenzi's first crime film, made one year after Calibre 9 is a great first entry. The influence of Di Leo's film is clearly evident including the casting of Leroy who appeared in that film as well. I think Lenzi mastered the pacing of films like this with later films, its 100 minutes which feels slightly too long and the flab seems to be mainly at the ending, though the final bloody scene is genuinely great. Sabato is full bore Eurocrime cheese, with his porn star Tache and winning attitude to women, Leroy is great as usual but I can't think of a film where he's been bad. |
