Best HK Horror films?

I'm looking for some good Hong Kong Horror titles...
And of course there can be some comedy included as well (standard for most HK productions I guess).

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 30th October 2011 08:55 PM

A few I've enjoyed (to varying degrees):

Ab-Normal Beauty
Bio-Zombie
Black Magic
Black Magic 2
Black Sun
Corpse Mania
Dumplings
Ebola Syndrome
Erotic Nightmare
The Eye
Inner Senses
The Killer Snakes
Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires
Seeding of a Ghost
The Untold Story
We're Going to Eat You
(more of a comedy)

sjconstable 30th October 2011 09:19 PM

I second Dumplings, and I also like Mr. Vampire and Encounters of the Spooky Kind.

bdc 30th October 2011 09:27 PM

Interesting list BE. :thumb:

Here's a few others:

Possessed
Possessed 2
Centipede Horror
Cat, The (1992) (actually more sci-fi but messy fun)
He Lives by Night
Human Lanterns
A Chinese Ghost Story
Devil Fetus

Possessed 2 trailer :)

And I just double posted...

The 7th Curse (The Seventh Curse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). A brilliantly twisted 1986 horror/fantasy/martial arts film starring Chow Yun Fat & Maggie Cheung about blood curses and a satanic worm tribe! Really crazy stuff but brilliant fun and pretty gory too!

CALAMITY OF SNAKES is HK production is it not? I tell ya, I'd love punch the twats who made that film!

bdc 31st October 2011 07:07 AM

Calamity of Snakes is a Taiwan/Hong Kong co-production.
It was filmed in Taiwan.
It definitely has lots of real snake killing...

Baseball Fury 31st October 2011 07:14 AM

Definitely recommend Dumplings, although it is pretty grim (I think the Three Extremes cut was better than the full length one)

I forgot Human Lanterns!

I've read a bit about Possessed and Possessed 2; they look like they could be fun! ;)

bdc 31st October 2011 07:40 AM

The second Possessed is better than the first one I seem to remember... ;)
I got the "Possessed I & II: Collection (2 DVD Box Set)" some time ago.

It must be a theme - I also prefer Black Magic 2 to Black Magic ;)

Have you seen Seeding of a Ghost, b?

One of my favourite HK horror films.

bdc 31st October 2011 08:02 AM

I also prefer Black Magic 2!
Yep,I've seen Seeding of a Ghost! :thumb:

Also got original HK posters of Seeding of a Ghost and Black Magic 2. ;)
Picked them up cheap years ago.

I'm currently contemplating picking up Bloody Parrot (1981)...

More titles I remembered, still have loads of HK horror stashed away on vhs btw...

Black Magic with Buddha (or Butchery)
Red Spell Spells Red

Btw just read somewhere that the HK dvd of Possessed 2 is heavily censored?
I haven't watched the dvd yet but I'm glad I kept my vhs!

Wow, I forgot all about that fil. Used to have it on VHS? I need to look into re owning it along with all the other old HK flicks I had on VHS.
Not true horror but you can't go wrong with Green Snake. Yummy.
Also Bio Zombie for the fun of it.
Enjoyed all the EYE movies, although do they really count as HK?
Me and the wife sat and watched The Eye 10 in a theatre in Hong Kong when it came out. The crowd loved it,as did we.

bdc 31st October 2011 05:12 PM

I'm also planning on getting all my old HK vhs favourites on dvd if possible.
I've been planning to do this for some time now, been ordering some titles now and then but never really made a list of titles I needed to get,but I've finally started... ;)

I used to love watching HK genre films back in the day.

Phurious 31st October 2011 10:02 PM

Echoing sentiments but Ebola Syndrome and The Untold Story really are unmissable, particularly the former - it's just bat shit crazy.

It'll be somewhat difficult to track down legally, but horror fans could do a lot worse than Deadly camp.

Shan gou 1999 (1999) - IMDb

It seems to get no love on imdb but is definately worth a look. Basically its some chainsaw weilding nutcase and his retarded son living out on some remote island and mudering anyone who strays on the island and upsets his son (knowingly or otherwise.) Its main recognisable star is Tony wong who at one point actually has to jerk off the handicapped son to avoid being chainsawed!

Best HK Horror films?

RED TO KILL
DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS
RAPED BY AN ANGEL -this film was cut to shreds in the UK by 11m 43s and known as NAKED KILLER 2, which is stupid as its got nothing to do with the original
I bought the HK dvd, not great quality like the other two, and read it was uncut, but later found out there is no uncut version anywhere, shame as its a good film

bdc 1st November 2011 09:17 PM

The Oily Maniac
This always reminds me of The Toxic Avenger... ;)

Yeah I picked up the Legendary Collection's of All In The Family and Kung Fu Girl from someone on eBay for really cheap. I think they had a fair few others from the Legendary Collection too.

bdc 8th November 2011 12:00 PM

Found them on eBay UK,it's a HK seller.
Just do a search including description for "Joy Sales".
Prices vary. ;)
