Rollin BD's from Kino in 2012

Thought the upcoming Rollin BD's deserved their own thread. New trailer can be found here:http://www.kinolorber.com/redemption

Can't wait for these! :pop2:

dream demon 1st November 2011 08:38 PM

Really excited about these.

Daemonia 2nd November 2011 12:34 AM

Are these to be US or UK releases? Region-free? Does anyone have any more information?

US releases.

No mention of any UK releases yet.

bgart13 2nd November 2011 02:13 AM

THE IRON ROSE and its shiny new HD-based transfer will be premiering on Turner Classic Movies in November (in the US).

EscapedLunatic 7th November 2011 05:55 PM

Someone at AV Maniacs said they will be regionfree. With all blus coming from BU, Arrow och kino next year I will have titles to buy for the whole next year. I can only afford buying 2-3 movies a month.

wayfarer 7th November 2011 09:24 PM

I hope Grapes of Death is one of the BRs being released.

This is the only Rollin film I have seen and I really liked it!

Same here. I like the look of the vampire movies and may give them a chance.

Daemonia 8th November 2011 11:28 AM

Last I heard, Grapes of Death was with Synapse, but their license may well have expired by now. No idea if it's now with Redemption or not.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 8th November 2011 11:37 AM

Grapes of Death is also my favourite Rollin film, but like Daemonia, I'm pretty sure Synapse still hold the rights to this one.

Rollin's films are usually an acquired taste (I personally love them!), and Grapes is probably his most accessible film.

Daemonia 8th November 2011 12:43 PM

The Living Dead Girl is my personal favourite. It has a haunting quality to it and is quite sad. Brilliantly atmospheric and wonderfully shot - with some nasty violence and gore thrown in for good measure. I hope this one gets a BD release!

Pete 8th November 2011 01:02 PM

'GRAPES' is now with Redemption but the release was delayed for reason.

Me too. It's one of my favourites too (probably my second favourite after Grapes :D).

Odd that it was delayed.

Plus, typical of Redemption, the cover leaves a lot to be desired!

Why can't they do double-sided covers?

Tbh i can't imagine these titles selling well enough in the U.K. to justify the expense of issuing the films in HD on British shores.
Personally, i wouldn't touch any Rollin release on BR no matter how improved the PQ is and the same goes for Jess Franco’s output bar Faceless. Not my bloodstained bag i'm afraid but each to their own.

Surely it must be only the Rollin and Franco titles that keep Nigel Wingrove's company going as Redemption don't seem to dabble in much else now unlike the label's VHS heyday when the selection of viewing material was somewhat broader imo. That said, i'd be up for Killers Moon and Schizo on BR.

Give ‘em a while and the relevant Rollin Redemption HD editions will probably end up being included as cover mounts on issues of DVD And Blu-Ray World or The Dark Side sooner or later!

Daemonia 14th January 2012 02:46 PM

You're probably right, I can't imagine the expense of releasing these here in the UK would make them a profitable endeavour.

Personally I'm a big fan of both Rollin and Franco, but I couldn't quite tell you why!

Speaking of Franco, why isn't there any Franco on BD yet?

Crimson Blade 14th January 2012 03:17 PM

I think the only title i may buy is Fascination as i couldn't get that on the Encore label.
But IMO The Living Dead Girl will always be Rollin's masterpiece.

As for Franco? I find a lot of his films seriously hard going, esp his women in prison films. I actually switched off Barb Wire Dolls about half way through before i died of boredom. Haha!
Having said that, i do have a lot of love for his giallo-esque Bloody Moon. Highly entertaining. :)

DVD Beaver reviews of THE IRON ROSE and THE NUDE VAMPIRE.

Demdike@Cult Labs 20th January 2012 10:11 PM

The Nude Vampire looks great, however i'm not sure the Iron Rose is any better, i prefer the Redemption USA dvd stills to be truthful

Pete 20th January 2012 10:37 PM

You going blu?

No.

The new Hammer discs may tempt me though, especially this time next year when they are going for £6 or so.

I'm in no hurry. After all people just moan like mad at Blu discs, yet never at dvd's. ;)

But they used to, year's ago. A bad DVD transfer would always get slated and people would moan about stupid things like a speck of dust on frame 1132324 of the film. It's just that those people have abandoned DVD now and so focus all their moaning on BD instead.

Bobz 16th March 2012 01:32 PM

Has anyone bought any of these Redemption blu rays yet?

Does anyone know if:

1) Non-Rollin titles in this range are region free also?

2) Is the entire range numbered? Or are the Rollin moives the only ones with numbered spines?

Cheers!

EscapedLunatic 16th March 2012 01:38 PM

I have Virgin Witch and it works fine on my region B player and it also has a number 7 on it.

Nice :)

Can't believe I only discovered this collection today. Its certainly one I'll eventually get around to collecting.

Hi Bobz

I have all the releases so far and can confirm that they are all indeed region free, and each release has a numbered spine. :)

Same here, and I imagine the numbered spines was just a way to put obsessive collectors like me (and, I guess, bizarre_eye as well) in a situation where we have to buy every Redemption release!

Make that 3 of us. I saw pictures of the covers and the first 5 releases stacked together. Too sexy to avoid. I wanna collect them all. I do like the movies aswell though! I think its great that they're getting released on blu ray.

Nah, I only buy purely if I like the film.

Therefore if they were to release a film I didn't care for, I wouldn't feel the need to buy it to complete the set. I have them arranged alphabetically on my shelves too, so the numbers are out of sequence.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 18th March 2012 06:30 PM

Trust Redemption to muck it up so soon by adding a small piece of artwork above the numbers on the latest two spines.

It does mean I'll have to buy every release to give the theme going!

I wonder how many titles they still own?

Don't know if you bought any Redemption on vhs but they had a poster in them with all the covers of their titles.

Must have been at least 50 i would think.

No, I don't have any of their titles on VHS but, if they release 50, there's going to be more than Shameless have released so far!
