Like if you go In to an adult book store and you are trying to pick out a film there is a cover star that really catches your eye and you buy it on the strength of that but if he or she can't act then you won't bother with any of their follow up work ;) |
I suppose I understand completely where extreme metal is concerned, not so much with Arch Enemy as it was the fact it was Mike Amott's band which piqued my interest - having been a MASSIVE Carcass fan back in the day, but recently I posted about a one-woman Black Metal solo project Myrkur and the fact that it was a woman doing it all on her own which got me listening to her stuff! Stuff like Within Temptation, Delain and The Gathering is metal music that only works with a female singer! |

So due to owning and liking this album i took notice when they returned with new singer Angela Gossow and immediately bought Wages of Sin due to it having a covers cd with it's initial pressing. Gossow has a great voice and eats a lot of male singers for breakfast. (I recommend the Live Apocalypse dvd by the way). I've liked them ever since. Oddly despite really liking the stuff with new singer Alissa, and thinking her gorgeous to boot, i haven't picked up the War Eternal album yet. I do tend to look at them as a very good metal band rather than a band with a female vocalist. |

Slayer - Black Magic |
Two classics from a pair of underrated albums IMO  |

Slayer - Gemini. What were they thinking? Sticking this brilliant track at the very end of their worst album. |
Yeah, that album is bloody awful! |

Gehenna - Adimiron Black |
That Hate Forest cd turned up. Demos from 2000 from a US firm called Elegy records. Not as "grim" as their studio material, though that is the nature of demos by and large. Ordering this reissue of Mayhem's Live At Leipzig next. |
