If anyone is interested, it seems that one of the 'specialist subjects' on next weeks 'Mastermind' (Friday, 16th December, BBC 2, 8:00pm) is black metal music!

Bit of a low brow subject for a high brow quiz show!

Mastermind isn't really that high-brow, specialist subjects in the past have included things like Doctor Who, Blackadder, Father Ted, Quentin Tarantino, The Sci-Fi novels of Iain Banks, The life of John Lennon, Thunderbirds, The history of Westerns (films).

Anything can be a specialist subject really, you either know it or you don't, and I'm sure that just as few people know about the 1992-1993 new wave of Norwegian Black Metal as they do the intricacies of Wagner's life and times.

What you should have said, is that Black Metal 'is just as good as the 1960's English invasion bands' or that 'The Who are just as good as a band like Goatwhore'.

They play in Dublin the night after so ill be at that.

I won a pair of tickets to see them play at Wembley with Anathema, but with only 2 days notice it was going to cost me over £200 to get there and stay overnight :( I'm hoping that they come back and do some regional shows later in the year.

No Irish or UK date bastards but they did like my facebook comment asking for an Irish gig and said they were working on going to the UK so i do think a UK and Ireland tour will finish off the European tour. Mayhem , Enslaved and Aura Noir in one year not sure i can handle that much excitement in my life.

Not someone I am familiar with, but it seems that Tony Särkkä from various black metal bands including Abruptum, Ophthalamia, Vondur, Incision, Brejn Dedd, War and 8th Sin has died aged 45

It's hard to believe that Vile is 21 years old this year.
I remember it coming out like it was yesterday, which makes me feel old :(
