I think there's one or two reasons behind losing touch, gag.

I've lost touch with a lot of genres i used to like such as alt-country and female fronted country music. The lack of general music mags is one reason as is the lack of a regular music show on terrestrial tv.

Despite the internet providing all the info on bands you could ever wish for it's also very insular unless you go looking. And going looking is easier said than done without the stimuli to do it.

Being a hard rock fan i still buy the mags such as Classic Rock and visit news sites such as Blabbermouth but that's it. I just get the news they give me about the bands they want me to read about / hear.

Things such as Spotify are exactly the same you hear what they want you to hear that's why the same acts are top of the singles charts for months on end - because you are force fed them.

So for all the good things the internet has brought to daily life and it being so big it's actually created a much smaller environment for things like music exploration.

Went to THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in concert at the Royal Albert Hall today. As with the STAR WARS concert last year, not one person was on their phone. No phone lights, no phones held up and no ringtones.
Fantastic!

Fantastic!

When I was at pixies last week you be surprised how many people where on their mobiles etc. One bloke even had his headphones on, when I went to see The The last year it was requested that everyone was not to use their mobiles and on one occasion he saw someone on it he stopped the music and gave a speech that it's sad that people pay all that money and can't stop using their mobiles for a couple of hours and how he thinks that they rule people lives.

I keep mine in my pocket and on odd occasion get it out to take a photo but i try and do it in a way I'm not blocking anyone view eg if I can hold it to my chest height and take a pic.

I don't know what the answer is. How do you control thousands of people now?
It's been let go for so long it's become the normal practice now.
Bands are starting to get onboard and try their best to stop it but it seems they can't.
Madonna is the latest. Cue the backlash that people think it is their right to film entire concerts. Never mind the people standing behind that have to see that for two hours.
The Albert Hall had control over the audience today, everyone was seated and the fanbase there respected the fact that you don't do it. But how do you control a few thousand standing fans packed shoulder to shoulder at a Nightwish concert ?
