I'm currently listening to it for the third time today and, although it's very good, I still prefer the more guitar-oriented rock of Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry.

It's a pretty decent album, but Sonic Boom was a lot better! :coolblue:

Whats the new ZZ Top album like Prince?

I've heard it has grooves and a great production but lacks any memorable tunes.

I own all ZZ Top albums, and that includes their first albums with both the original mixes and the "80s"-sound. And, to be totally blunt, I like all of their albums. With the exception of El Loco and Afterburner (both are pretty mediocre when compared to ZZ Top's usual standards) I'd rate all albums four or five stars. La Futura gets a five-star-rating from me.

As for the production: if you dislike Rubin's style, you'll hate the sound. If you love Rubin (and I do), you'll think the album kicks ass big time.

As for grooves and tunes: excellent stuff. It really sounds as if ZZ Top had listened to all their previous albums and picked the best parts of each record before recording La Futura.

Excellent songs: I Gotsta Get Paid (ZZ Top are wizards - they take a HipHop song and transform it into badass cool music!), Chartreuse (i.e. Tush 2012), Consumption (one of the coolest songs ever - soooooo laid-back), I Don't Wanna Lose, Lose, You (sounds a bit like one of the greater Eliminator songs), Flyin' High (extremely catchy song - ZZ Top meets AC/DC meets contemporary rock), It's Too Easy Manana (slow, dusty, bluesy - should be accompanied by a Tequila!), Big Shiny Nine (kicks ass, Rhythmeen-style), Have A Little Mercy (classic ZZ Top at their very best).

Good song: Heartache In Blue (typical ZZ Top song - absolutely ok)

Mediocre song: Over You (pretty boring ballad)

Greetings!

After not buying a new album in months suddenly i get 4 in the space of a couple of weeks. I posted the new KISS album a little while ago.

I got the Motorhead for the dvd content which has a full show from Wacken Open Air in 2011 and sets from Sonisphere and Rock in Rio. Brilliant it is too.

Venom - Cast in Stone

I was looking for this last week as i wanted to give the second cd a listen. Its ten tracks of re-recorded Venom classics with better production. No idea where it is so i ordered it again, and it arrived today.

A very good album when the original Venom reunited, with Cronos back in place of the underrated Tony Dolan.

I sold quite a few cd's around the year 2000. Ones i thought i would never listen to again. What a dick! I think i've probably bought most of them again by now,

You and me together

Back in the early 90's, when I was a total metalhead, I got rid of a lot of the albums I got in the 70's and 80's which were *spit* pop!

I now find myself trawling found the shops, trying to replace albums by bands suck as The Boomtown Rats, Hazel O'Connor, Toyah, Bad Manners etc

It's only later when you realise just how good those bands were, and the fact that they have stood the test of time more than acts like Bathory!

It's the same with Live Aid. At the time, there were only a few bands that I was interested in, but many years after the event, I got the DVD, and the acts that I didn't give the time of day to at the time, are now the sets that I watch most!

I've learnt now to never get rid of albums. There will always come a time when you want to listen to something. No matter how disappointed you were when you first heard it or even felt fed up with it a few years down the line.

I never get rid of films now until i have at least watched them twice, no matter how poor i thought they were first time around. More often than not i get rid after the second viewing of a poor film though. :)

Picked these up today.

Some Girls by The Rolling Stones, a childhood favourite of mine.
Meat and Bone by the very grizzled looking Jon Spencer Blues Explosion which sees a return to form with a fuzzier, meaner sound than their more popular stuff from the days when they were a hip band to like. I always preferred their earlier noisy stuff.
The Violence. A blind buy based on the blurb on the back of the CD stating it is about the English Civil War and the Essex Witch Hunt. I was expecting a slice of wonky, earthy folk music but... it's some sort of indie neo acoustic bilge. Good lyrics, shite music.

Demdike@Cult Labs 10th November 2012 11:19 PM

Did you ever hear the Boss Hogg album Whiteout MTDS?

Its very catchy but i think its one of Spencers best pieces of work. (Not that i've heard them all).

I'm exactly the same as cover years ago, I sold a load of CDs which I know wish I'd kept (the same applies for my VHS tapes) and now I can't remember the last time I sold a CD, DVD or BD which wasn't a duplicate of one I already have.

'The Who Live At Leeds' is regarded as being the greatest live album EVER released

However, on the short tour, back in 1970, the band also recorded a show in Hull

This has been left in the vaults since then

It seems to be agreed that The Who Live In Hull is much better than the Leeds show

Therefore, I have just ordered this from Amazon

Live At Hull: Amazon.co.uk: Music

pedromonkey 16th November 2012 11:23 PM

just used That's entertainment for the first time, spent £23 and ordered these.

The Ramones - Acid Eaters
The Ramones - Pleasant Dreams
The Ramones - We're Outta Here!
Green Day - Kerplunk
Nirvana - Nirvana
No.1 Motown Album (used to own this but the discs are knackered, great collection)
The James Bond Collection: 4 Disc Collection
