Blu-rays

The minimalist collection! (Both great films and releases, which are in my collection.)

That's not to say i don't own the films featured in the Criterion Collection.

I actually own a lot of them but from other labels.

I'm the same, with films from the StudioCanal Collection, Masters of Cinema Series, or another release which I don't *need* to buy from Criterion for the sake of a few extra features.

Some non criterion releases are actually better. Wages of fear and the third man spring to mind. The UK releases are better.

I can't believe the Criterion Easy Rider is any better than one of the dvd editions i have.

The special edition two disc box set with the directors commentary, classic 65 minute making of doc, Easy Riders and Raging Bulls film, lobby card set and 80 page BFI Modern Classic book.

Obviously that's just one example, but many of the Arrow and Eureka versions are also extras packed.

The transfer on easy rider is a genuine upgrade but I still have my DVD release for extras.

Oh i'm not denying the blu will look better than the dvd, i was meaning extra content.

On the other hand are Criterion's transfers better than other companies or are they the same. Videodrome for example in comparison to Arrow?

I have no idea how or why, but I don't own Easy Rider on any format. When I do buy it – and I will – it will be probably be the Criterion Blu-ray release.

I'm not one who generally double dips on films but seeing as it's one of my top 10 of all time i do own two copies of it.

I prefer Arrows videodrome release.

Criterion have long been a benchmark for home media releases. However other firms have had a long while to catch up.

Third man which I mentioned before, the uk has a fully restored 4k transfer that one ups Criterions.
A lot of Eureakas releases are comparable to Criterion. Even Arrow academy and Indicator are doing great things.
