It's another day one purchase for me. I think it's one of the more enjoyable of the latter day Fulci and I'm really looking forward to seeing it in HD. Plus, the accompanying Fulci doc sounds fab.

Ooh, Demonia's a turgid film. So, so dull.

Agreed Dem - it's awful. I can always find something to like in Fulci's lesser efforts. But that one is pretty unwatchable.

Aenigma is way better than the snooze-fest that is Voices from Beyond, in my opinion.

Whilst not top tier Fulci, I splashed out for the Italian Raro DVD (a pretty nice print) a few years ago.

Everyone needs to see 'death by snails' in HD!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 13th January 2017 06:50 PM

I watched Aenigma last night – the first time I've seen it in many years – and generally enjoyed the film. It's not one of thought is best, but it is still good entertainment and has been beautifully restored.

I'm going to go through all four new releases again, watching them with the Italian tracks and then check out the supplementary material.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 13th January 2017 07:44 PM

As our very own Nos alluded to the other day, Massacre in Dinosaur Valley has indeed been cut for the cock-fighting scenes (13 seconds in total).

BBFC

All previous cuts have been waived.

That was my guess based on a hunch and something Calum Waddell said in the documentary which is on the disc.

I don't know how the BBFC know for sure that the cockfighting was "orchestrated and directed for the purposes of the film". As Calum points out in the Cannibalising Culture documentary, cockfighting was fairly commonplace in Brazil at the time and could have been happenstance that the production was in the same place.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 13th January 2017 08:02 PM

They're wanting to stop cutting films and start censoring these types of Cocks-fighting! :pound:

(I'm assuming) My indiegogo set arrived today to an empty house! Too big for my letter box, so it's waiting for me down at the sorting office! Woop Woop!

I watched half of Absurd last night, I've never seen it before but it looks fantastic and the film itself is surprisingly enjoyable. I didn't feel too well though so I turned it off and went to sleep, going to watch the rest of it this afternoon.

Funny thing, it took about 20 minutes of the film to realise it was supposed to be set in America

BAKA 14th January 2017 11:15 AM

Absurd is my favourite of the lot. It's a shameless rip off, but it's just so enjoyable.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 14th January 2017 05:52 PM

ABSURD is a riot!
My favourite D'Amato/Montefiore film.

Just finished watching it. Why did no-one mention Robin Williams was in it?

I really enjoyed it. Definitely for the keep/re-watch pile.

TJ Doc 14th January 2017 11:04 PM

Absurd's ok, but I think it's really missing Anthro's creepy atmosphere.

Haven't watched the new Blu-ray yet though (which looks great if my cursory flick through is any indication), so I'm looking forward to re-evaluating it.

plasterface 15th January 2017 12:04 AM

absurd ending

always thought they missed a trick at the film's end

not sure if he spoiler thing has worked in last message

Watched Absurd last night and thought it looked great. Still, I'm waiting for the magnifying glass crowd to point out flaws I didn't see.

MuckyFunster 15th January 2017 09:08 AM

I watched Absurd last night too. I thought it was great! George Eastman would've been a scary figure to go up against. He looks huge! Huge mute hulking brute killing off everyone he comes up against.

I was wondering though, was there something in that house that he was looking for? Would explain how he was there at the start and then again after his op.

Did anyone notice Joe D'amato's reflection in glass at one point in the film? Lol.

It was cool seeing my name in the credits. Felt proud to have been part of it!

I think he stumbled upon the house at first just because he was being chased by the priest (which in itself doesn't make sense) and then the second time he recognised the car that run him down.

At least that's how I took it.

TBH thought that was the only thing Anthro had going for it so I hope Absurd has a lot of other good stuff

I agree, it was well worth taking up.

Same price as an initial release purchase from HMV plus the slipcovers as a bonus.

Well I did notice for the first time that once the 'paralyzed' girl hit him with the axe, the first time there was blood on her dress (to be expected), but then the second time she hits him, her dress is clean! The continuity is then correct from the shot afterwards. The things you spot when you're not watching an umpteenth video copy, eh? ;)

Graeme73 15th January 2017 01:04 PM

Also, the subtitles on the Eastman interview were dire...at one stage, a word is separated on two different lines, i.e. 'T
hey.'

Well no, it doesn't really. The film's main appeal is seeing what happens when Joe D'Amato tries to ape John Carpenter.

The results are mixed.

Yeah, they were ropey subtitles, some of the words used seemed like a literal translation rather than interpreting it into they way British people read sentences. The Michele Soavi one was the same, it was quite hard to follow his meaning at points.

Yeah, I got that he recognised the car that ran him over, I just thought like what's the chances of him happening across the same house when he's bumbling about seemingly randomly. Was he drawn toward it somehow?

I'm likely just reading too much into it! In reality it's just a slasher on a budget, cast of just a few, and the one main filming locus too!

:-D

I don't think you missed anything. It's just a slim plot with a low budget! Why pay for more sets when it can all happen in one house haha.

michal 16th January 2017 08:27 AM

funny think is that there was a lots of complaining about that massacare was cut and people want there money back . that is deleted on 88 films asked people on facebook who received 4 films and many people asked for the money back. i think 88 films deleted that post since nothing can be done

Justin101 16th January 2017 08:37 AM

People demanding their money back because 13 seconds of a cock fight has been edited out need to get their life priorities sorted out in my opinion.

Yes 88 Films backed themselves into a corner with their wording and should have put a little '*subject to BBFC' clause in there. They can't change the law or release illegal products though.

By all accounts it's not exactly a brilliant film is it, it's a z-grade cannibal cash-in.

monkeypedro 16th January 2017 09:05 AM

As much as i am against censorship the missing footage in Massacre in Dinosaur Valley doesn't ruin the movie and is still an enjoyable jungle romp. If people are not happy with their 88 Films copy i am sure if they stuck them on Ebay they would be snapped up by crazed collectors who missed the campaign and would pay over the odds especially as it has the slipcase.

keirarts 16th January 2017 09:08 AM

Why are people surprised massacre in dinosaur valley was cut? I'd assumed it would be from the get-go. Personally I'm surprised 88 are still going after cannibal films at all. There's not many that would get through unscathed and there are much better films out there waiting for releases.

cut and run has no animal violence so i think that film would be better option

I think people it was expected it will be cut plus it is stuiped i read some cooments that some people want to sent copys back and get antropagus 2k version instead .

Justin101 16th January 2017 09:35 AM

If you look on eBay there have been multiple copies sold for around £20, someone even sold just the slip-cover for near a tenner. If you're that desperately unhappy about it, just get rid of it. ;)
