Imagine what supermarket staff must make of me taking photos of the whisky aisle.

Coming in June:

Paul@TheOverlook 26th April 2017 04:40 PM

One of my all-time favourite films. I have the Dutch and German releases the latter had both cuts, albeit that the extended version is SD. I wonder what they'll do with the one?

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 26th April 2017 04:42 PM

Just gets better and better.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 26th April 2017 05:30 PM

I've never seen Casualties of War, but that will be remedied when I buy this release.

Rik 26th April 2017 05:45 PM

Great film, I've never owned it so I'll be getting this at some point

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 26th April 2017 09:11 PM

I've changed the thread title due to it no longer being purely Warner releases making up this collection now (Casualties of War, Donnie Brasco and Gattaca are all Sony titles).

Paul@TheOverlook 26th April 2017 10:41 PM

Nos, it's an incredible film - one of De Palma's very best - and that's saying something, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm always amazed by the number of films I haven't seen despite having seen more films anyone I see on a regular (or even semiregular) basis!

I like just about every Brian De Palma film I have seen, if not all of them, so really look forward to adding Casualties of War to my collection.

I'm the same, my friends tease me when I say I haven't seen a film and say stuff like "I thought you were a film fan" they know it winds me up
I've not seen this film either but I like the cast and the director so I'll be giving it a go.

Snap. There are plenty of films I've yet to see!

This one, for me, is top tier De Palma, along with Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Blow Out and Carlito's Way.

Demdike@Cult Labs 27th April 2017 10:34 AM

I too haven't seen Casualties of War.

Rik 27th April 2017 10:47 AM

I'm surprised so many haven't seen it, it's a film I've seen on TV loads of times over the years, normal TV too, not SKY.

Definitely recommend it to those that haven't seen it, and that's coming from someone who isn't considered a massive fan of De Palma

PREMIUM COLLECTION (HMV EXCLUSIVES) THREAD

It came out during the glut of Vietnam movies - that, at the time, was my motivation for seeing it because I was 14 and about a year from the point when I took an interest in directors.

I really cannot emphasise how great a film it is - Fox was never better in a dramatic role, Penn is top of his game and there's wonderful support from then-unknowns such as John C. Reilly and John Leguizamo. The lush cinematography showcases the beautiful Phuket landscapes and the Morricone score is one of the composer's best latter-day efforts. It's a dark, uncompromising film and one that's very critical of American foreign policy - it's quite something that it was made by a major studio but no surprise that it flopped.

I don't watch the telly
I'm really intrigues to watch this now though, especially because it has a Morricone score.

I don't own either The Dirty Dozen or Battle of The Bulge any format, so that's a very welcome announcement.

Demdike@Cult Labs 3rd May 2017 10:04 PM

If you don't mind me saying, Battle of the Bulge is f**king awesome.

One of my top 5 WW2 movies.

I think i will buy that purely because i like the film so much.

Looks like Nos will be getting into classic WW2 movies shortly.

trebor8273 4th May 2017 12:05 PM

really hoping at some point we get Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze!

hivemind 4th May 2017 02:27 PM

The Dirty Dozen cover looks total hand grenade bollocks. Classic Aldrich movie too, love it, but I'll stick with my old VHS copy with that stunning artwork. Just a shame Warner didn't stick with the original poster art.

Would of looked like a REAL tasty purchase.

My collection is a bit short on non-mainstream World War II films, so I'm looking forward to buying and watching/re-watching these and many other films like them.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 10th May 2017 02:51 PM

Possibly. However, unlike some previous titles (Gremlins 2, King Kong, Little Shop of Horrors) I'll be buying these for the first time and not double dipping for BDs I already have.

J Harker 10th May 2017 05:24 PM

I have the excellent US blu of Jeremiah Johnson.

I only had a couple, I was still at college at the height of the label and I didn't have the money for all the videos  Had a nice Salem's Lot/Salem's Lot 2 tape though I remember vividly.

I don't remember it as vividly as I thought, it wasn't a Terror Vision one, that was just the original. It did have this fantastically shit cover on it though

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th May 2017 05:20 PM

I think everyone had that tape for Larry Cohen's sequel.
The longer Salem's Lot version is far superior to the 'theatrical' edit.

No reason Salem's Lot couldn't surface on this fine label.
Both cuts would be great!

Justin,have a wee nosey here....;)
