Your Top 5 Picks for Shameless Releases!

As there was a thread for Arrow, I thought I'd create one for Shameless too. :)

I'd personally like to see some lost or forgotten gems come to either Shameless DVD or Blu-ray (depending on the release/materials etc.) in the near future.

My top 5 would probably be:

1. Death Laid an Egg - Bizarre Giallo from Giulio Questi

2. 2019: After the Fall of New York - The best post-apocalypse film I've come across so far.

3. Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll - Terrific Spanish giallo style slasher starring Paul Naschy.

3. Bamboo House of Dolls - The best WIP flick I've ever seen - great fun ;)

4. The House that Screamed (La Residencia) - Creepy Spanish crime thriller which takes place in a creepy all girls boarding school.

5. Giallo a Venezia - I can dream!

ReturnToZero 3rd January 2012 08:19 PM

I would love to see Shameless release some more italian thriller/horrorfilms too.

Death Walks on High Heels

Death Walks at Midnight

So Sweet... So Perverse

Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key

sjconstable 6th January 2012 02:14 AM

The Spider Labyrinth (Reeeeally needs a release)
The Case of the Scorpion's Tail
Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
Seven Notes in Black
One on Top of the Other

Hawkmonger 6th January 2012 01:04 PM

Aenigma
Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
Seven Notes in Black
The Ogre (who knows?.....)
More Aldo Lado, anything!

sjconstable 7th January 2012 12:48 AM

I've added Lucio Fulci's 'One on Top of the Other' to my list, we need the uncut Italian version released - the US and Australian DVDs are the shorter French cut.

Daemonia 7th January 2012 02:41 AM

Top 10 picks I'd like to see on UK Shameless DVD? No problem.

1: Absurd (go on, you know it makes sense)
2: Anthropophagous
3: Deathdream
4: God Told Me
5: Flesh for Frankenstein
6: Blood for Dracula
7: Shock Waves (never grabbed the BU DVD, would love a good UK release)
8: Exorcist 3 (could you wrangle this from Warner?)
9: Five Dolls for an August Moon (well, you did blindside everyone with a phenomenal BD release of Bay of Blood)
10: Every single unreleased Giallo or Police Thriller you can get your hands on

That last one was because, as much as I love an upgrade as the next man, I'd like some new stuff, y'know?

ReturnToZero 7th January 2012 09:07 PM

1. Agreed. But only if it comes with a uncut, anamorphic transfer so all of us who owns the Mya release can throw it in the trash.

10.

SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK aka THE PSYCHIC is an underrated film from Fulci
I have the R1 Severin and a UKR2 would be welcome

I just read a few reviews of Umberto Lenzi's giallo Knife on Ice and the only official releases which seems to be available is the US and Japanese DVD. The US is non-anamorphic with bad quality, the Japanese has a nice print but its also non-anamorphic.
I think about 99% of us who likes to watch movies has a widescreen TV so these releases are just not acceptable.

I think Shameless should consider releasing this!

sjconstable 10th January 2012 12:10 PM

The Short Night of Glass Dolls needs releasing with Italian audio.

Knife of Ice was a release i was looking forward to. Then its release was delayed and Mya end up offering us the version you mention with a poor print.

It would be great if Shameless did pick it up for release.

It wasn't MYA who released Knife of Ice, but the grey-market outfit WHAM! USA, Dem.

I too would like to see the film get a proper remastered anamorphic release. Lenzi has a reputation as being a bit of a sleazy director after Cannibal Ferox, but when watching his older gialli (Spasmo, Seven Blood Stained Orchids etc.) you realise how much talent he has.

Also, the Japanese version of Knife of Ice was improperly translated on the cover, so is actually called Ice of Knife! ;)

Mojo 10th January 2012 06:24 PM

A few ideas...

What Have You Done To Solange? ( Blu-ray )
Amuck!
Sodoma's Ghost
The Washing Machine
All The Colours Of The Dark

:)

Daemonia 12th January 2012 01:47 AM

Caltikii
I, Vampiri
Island of the Fishmen
Long Hair of Death
Plankton (aka Creatures from the Deep)

Daemonia 12th January 2012 01:49 AM

A few more I'd like to see in the UK...

Exorcist 3 (but I doubt Warner would license it out, but I'd love to see a rebuild of the original film before the studio interference)
Nightbreed (as above)
The 5 Days of Milan (the only Argento I have yet to see)
Catacombs
Specters
The Video Dead
Lost in Time (Waxwork 2)
The Silent Night Deadly Night sequels

Excellent little gem. Bava's outstanding b/w-cinematography is really eye-catching!

Greetings!

Daemonia 12th January 2012 01:30 PM

What would be the chances of Arrow or Shameless getting hold of those Amicus, Tigon, Walker and Warren films and giving them the Blu treatment?

And since Shamless have surprised everyone by getting Four Flies, how about getting hold of The Ghoul and Legend of the Werewolf? Those Tyburn films are loooooong overdue for a DVD release (or even BD, now).

Hawkmonger 12th January 2012 02:52 PM

The Five Days of Millan is to much of a comedy for shameless to release IMHO. Maybe that would be one for Arrow Acadamy?

Greetings!

Bava's / Freda's (I know he left the film) I VAMPIRI was to my surprise a nice little horror
I honestly didn't think I would like it so much and it was the first Italian horror but as the R0 Image was pricey I bought the anamorphic dvdr of the film
Would really like to see this film w/Tim Lucas commentary
There is a German dvd under a different title but I read its not Eng friendly
A nice UK release would be great to my Bava collection

I'm a tool, i wasn't even on about Knife of Ice in my own mind, i was talking about Death Will Have Your Eyes. :boom:.

ReturnToZero 12th January 2012 08:01 PM

MYA definitely needs some violent sado torture for releasing such a pathetic DVD.

Nemesis 13th January 2012 08:27 PM

I watched House with Laughing Windows recently and I really liked Avati's work on it - I'd love to see Zeder which is supposed to be good.

More Fulci and perhaps the introduction of some Franco and di Leo would be great.

What about Spaghetti Westerns?

Gothmogxx 11th April 2012 08:08 PM

top 5 shameless releases

. Cannibal Ferox
. Antropophagus
. Faces of Death
. Deep River Savages
. The Beast in Heat

Good suggestions but I reckon there's more chance of Hell freezing over than them getting passed the BBFC unscathed

Hawkmonger 12th April 2012 08:26 AM

I dunno. Antrophagus might get through unscaved.

Sobral 12th April 2012 11:14 AM

I'd like to see more gialli and eurocrime.

skankenstoned 12th April 2012 02:49 PM

Hmmm, can't be too specific so any of the following...

1) More Post Apocalypse!!! A Cirio H Santiago box-set perhaps?
2) More Gialli!!!
3) Nazis!!!
4) More Horror!!!
5) More Sex!!!

Daemonia 13th April 2012 12:33 AM

Since someone has mentioned Pupi Avati, how about UK releases of Zeder and The Arcane Enchanter? Both excellent films.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 12th June 2012 07:24 PM

Some great suggestions; keep them coming!

I've got a hankering for some more gialli and post apocalypse films...

The sooner we see 2019: After the Fall of New York in a yellow box, the better! :D

bdc 12th June 2012 07:32 PM

More gialli wanted. ;)

Orgasmo
Paranoia
Amuck
Death steps in the Dark
The Eye in the Labyrinth

To name just 5.

Hawkmonger 12th June 2012 08:47 PM

I can eyeball and Eyeball in High Deffinition.

Rassilon 13th June 2012 05:16 PM

zombie creeping flesh:eek:
girls on the road:shocked:
demons 3 the ogre
xtro:loco:
zone troopers:woot:
the beast within:tongue1:

Third Eye 15th June 2012 04:18 PM

I second Giallo a Venezia and Eyeball, and raise you Amuck and the missing Deodato and Cozzi films (Black Cat, Paganini Horror, Washing Machine, Barbarians, Concorde Affair, etc.).

Third Eye 15th June 2012 04:23 PM

I'll say that any Italian gialli, horror, genre, not having a UK or US DVD release within the last decade or so deserves appraisal...I'd even welcome that cheesy early 90's giallo with all the porn stars, Masquerade!

No, for the love of all that's good not PAGANINI HORROR! It's the worst Italian horror I've seen. Used to have the German dvd.

Wouldn't mind AMUCK and a BD of EYEBALL. I think GIALLO A VENEZIA would be cut over here.

Crimson Blade 15th June 2012 08:11 PM

What would need to be cut from Giallo A Venezia?
I have heard of this film, but never seen it.

i have a dvdr (vhs transfer) which is full screen and not 2.35:1 which i think GIALLO A VENEZIA's proper ratio is and there is one scene which the BBFC would cut concerning a scissors stabbing between the girl's legs
no doubt other scenes might be cut as well, I haven't seen the film for some time

Pete 17th June 2012 01:40 PM

There is also this scene.

I don't think the ratio is 2.35:1. I have two dvdrs - one subtitled which is full screen and obviously cropped as the credits don't fit the screen and the alternate 'hardcore' version, which is also full frame but appears to be an open matte transfer and has loads more picture info on the sides. If anything I'd say it's 1.85:1.

it might well be, and my dvdr is subtitled i bought from giallogoblin.com years ago
like i said i haven't seen the dvd in ages
i read in a review that the ratio was a possible 2.35:1
but the transfer was crap

Pete 17th June 2012 02:27 PM

I was given mine.

It could be 2.35 but I personally don't think it is. I think the reviewer just assumed because it's a giallo that the ratio must be 2.35:1. We'll never know for sure until someone gives it a proper release, which seems unlikely at the minute. Mind you, how many times have we heard that in the past...
