Selling direct would do away with the distributor and shops which would mean higher profits for CR on each dvd I guess.

My copy of Julie Darling is still showing as "On backorder with the supplier more than 5 days" at Planet Axel. I hope this doesn't mean that they can't get it.

So Code Red are having distributor problems, then? Maybe this is why so many of their releases are showing as "currently unavailable" on Amazon, even their recent ones.

I'm finding it hard to understand why CR seem to be having so many issues when Scorpion releases seem to be much easier to locate, and usually at better prices, too.

Their distributor called it quits (regarding digital media) at the end of December.
Shops had time till the end of February for last orders and returns (unsold stock) it seems.
There's a statement from their distributor on the previous page.
Scorpion has a different distributor,I also thought that Navarre wasn't very good at distributing Code Red...

That was a somewhat interesting interview with him on the last page.

I'm actually somewhat concerned about the future of Code Red. If they do start selling stuff through their site, I hope they do some research on an online ordering system because it's easy to listen to a web guy talk a lot and end up with a system that looks like crap, has flaws but was cheap to buy.

I don't think Nightmare sold as poorly as what was said. Amazon is out of stock and the few other stores that sell it are either backordered or if it is in stock, the price is much higher than it use to be.

I also think he underestimates how many blu-rays would get sold. Can't argue with the extra fees, thanks to Sony. Other companies selling similar types of titles don't seem to have the issues he thinks would effect him but maybe he really doesn't sell much stuff in the first place.

I think the Maria B stuff is as retarded as the Katrina hosted stuff, or whatever her name is. The first time I ran across it, my first impression was that some insane person thought consumers would want horror movies hosted by former(?) wrestlers, with retarded ass covers, would be a good seller compared to a normal cover for the same title. I wanted the movies but the cover was a huge turn off for me. They look ****ing ridiculous. I think there was a huge mistake with not making every cover reversible.

He complains about people saying the cover isn't reversible. Considering the non-clear case the movie comes in, I can understand people not bothering to check. It's not at all like Katrina(?), where the cases are clear, or at least the ones I eventually picked up, so you can easily see you don't have to have perfectly good movie artwork ****ed up by an idiot throwing on banners and some girl most people aren't going to recognize.

I quite like the Katrina / Maria hosted material. Its not as if you have to watch it, just don't bother with that option.

The Scorpion discs i have all have reversible covers so i don't see your problem there.

I'm assuming Scorpion does Katrina. I held off on getting any of those at first since it looked like a hack job to me. I didn't know the quality of the print but based on the horrendous cover, I didn't want to find out.

It wasn't until I saw through the clear case that I was able to reverse it.

On the other hand, the Code Red titles are all black cases, so unless one normally checks for hidden artwork, you can't tell.

My point is that if you don't follow these types of things and the first time you ever encounter these at a store or online looking at the cover, it's easy to lose a potential customer. As a newcomer to those series, my first impression was that they're trying to replicate Elvira. I've seen lots of horror hosts doing the same in the past and they've usually been hack jobs. I don't want to pay $15-20 just to find out how bad they've hacked up the movie to get some generic boob girl to host it. I can get that stuff for free locally on cable access.

Now I own some but haven't sat down to watch any of them. I have a backlog of movies on DVD and blu-ray I haven't watched that is somewhere between 2,000-5,000 movies. It probably won't be until next month to when I get around to watching some when I participate in a b-move/cult/exploitation type movie challenge.

I'm not trying to say the end product is all bad, I'm just giving my impressions from when I first saw these things. I honestly don't know of anyone that would look at those covers and say "I must have that. That is such an amazing cover and the insides of the case must be filled with horror hostess goodness".

edit: I guess it's Katarina. I find her cover's to be less gaudy than Maria's.

I prefer Maria myself as she's more playful...
Actually they just do an intro/outro which you can choose to skip in the menu.

As Bdc says, its only an intro and outro which are both skippable. Neither hostess cuts in when the film is playing making quips.

Every Scorpion release i have seen has a very good print, they aren't a poor company.

A glance at the back cover info should tell you all you need to know regarding plentiful extras and film remastering.

I first saw them at Amazon, so there wasn't a back cover. I just saw Maria on the cover and thought she was some end of shelf life porn star and pictured her doing PG rated seductive bits before, during, and at the end of the movie. The kind of stuff you'd see back in the 80s on USA, weekend nights, when phone chat 900 number commercials were all the rage.

That or her standing there trying to read cue cards but having a hard time reading. Then she jiggles.

Next month I'll see how wrong/right I was
