Weekly Comp - The Lost Bladesman - 07/08/2011 - FINISHED & SENT
Welcome to August everyone! Kicking it all off... Hiyaaaa! “EPIC BATTLE SCENES AND FURIOUS DUELS… YEN’S CHOREOGRAPHY IS A STUNNING AS EVER.” – BEYOND HOLLYWOOD.COM. The source material for several screen adaptations over the years (including John Woo’s “Red Cliff” and Daniel Lee’s “Three Kingdoms: Resurrection Of The Dragon”), Luo Guanzhong’s classic historical novel “Romance Of The Three Kingdoms” provides the inspiration for the sumptuous period martial arts epic and Chinese box office smash, The Lost Bladesman. Co-written and co-directed by the duo responsible for the “Infernal Affairs” trilogy, Alan Mak and Felix Chong, and starring Donnie Yen (14 Blades; Bodyguards And Assassins; Ip Man), Jiang Wen (The Founding Of A Republic), Alex Fong (Triple Tap; Once A Gangster) and Sun Li (Fearless), with stunning action choreography by Yen, the film has been described as “an emotionally-charged, high-octane adventure [and] a couple of hours of rip-roaring entertainment in the company of one of history’s greatest badasses” (Twitch Film). Yen stars as the legendary warrior Guan Yun Chang, sworn brother of the great warlord Liu Bei, who, on becoming separated from his friend during the tumultuous warring period of the Three Kingdoms, is taken prisoner by and agrees to fight temporarily alongside Liu Bei’s enemy and rival warlord, Cao Cao. Guan’s heroism on the battlefield is rewarded with the title of Marquis of Hanshou and promotion to the rank of lieutenant general in Cao Cao’s army. The position allows him the freedom to escort Liu Bei’s concubine, Qi Lan, who is being held hostage by Cao Cao, back to her lord and master. But the journey is fraught with danger as Guan and Qi Lan must make their way through a number of mountain passes, all of which are occupied by enemy generals and their armies. “Glorious martial arts mastery” (Variety) and “impressive vistas and gorgeous scenery” (BeyondHollywood.com) add a visual splendour to a film that is “brimming with action” (Twitch Film) and reaffirms Donnie Yen as one of Eastern cinema’s most appealing and enduring action stars. The Lost Bladesman (cert. 12) will be released on DVD (£15.99) and Blu-ray (£15.99) by Icon Home Entertainment on 8th August 2011. Well how do you win this? Well this week there's three possible ways to get your hands on this beauty via the Comp Corner. Three ways, each with one DVD/Blu-Ray as the prize and each way varying in difficulty. Of course, you're more likely to get the easiest one correct, but so are other people. Easier competition = more competition. So give the extra hard one a go if you dare, there'll be far fewer people entering/getting the last one correct. In theory, one person could this week win all three copies of this film! SUPER EASY WAY TO WIN... Ninjas. They're everywhere. Look there's one sneaking up on you as you read this. Take a look at the below picture; a screenshot from the film with added ninjas. All you have to do is spot how many there are and where and then PM me your answer. Super easy! NOT TOO HARD NOT TOO EASY WAY TO WIN... Another lost...hidden themed comp here. Within the below wordsearch is several Asian cult film titles. How many are there and what are they? PM me your answer! SUPER DUPER FREAKIN' HARD AS HELL NEAR IMPOSSIBLE WAY TO WIN... Holy moly you really want to prove something now, don't you. Think you can take on this way? Bring it on! All you have to do is head to the Weekly Cult Labs Newsletter and read VERY, VERY closely. There's a total of 5 (read it, FIVE) one-worded film titles hidden in the newsletter. Where? Well they're hidden in the last few letters of one word and the start of another. So here's an example of what I mean. See the word 'Time' is hiddden in that one. Stupid example, as it's not a well known horror title, but whatever - they're not easy to make! PM me your finds! THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 5 AUGUST 2011 Good luck! Kyle

Hang on, are you saying there are five words in the wordsearch, and we have to find them in the newsletter? Or is the wordsearch AND the newsletter? I'm confused!

no it sounds like in the newsletter when mentioning a film....some words from these films are in the wordsearch you have to figure out which words from which mentioned films...

No no They're three totally seperate ways of winning. You don't have to enter them all. The easiest way will get more entries however, so less chance of winning - each way has it's own random draw. They're nothing to do with each other. So the words in the wordsearch are not the films in the newsletter necessarily. For the 2nd way - wordsearch - you have to look and see how many cult asian film titles you can find in it, PM me the answer and the film titles. For the 3rd way - the near impossible way! with the newsletter - I've hidden 5 horror one-worded film titles that you guys would be familiar within it. These are hidden by the end of one word and the start of another. You just have to find them and PM me the 5 films you can find. Told you it's damn hard this one! The films are nothing to do with the 1st or 2nd way of winning.
