So does anyone think it's okay to go back and tweek a film's special effects ? Like, Blade Runner had some of its wrinkles smoothened out for 2007's Final Cut and it looked better for it. Personally I like it if someone went back and redone some of the special effects in Dune - some of the shots of the giant worms are pitiful, even for 1984...

I think improving old fx in a decent way (considering the time they were made) is not so bad but adding new ones where there were none is something else.

And if you have to do it at least offer the original as an alternative.

I have no issue with it and wonder if people are more offended by having their memories of a film altered in a sense, rather than the film itself. Is it really any different to the idea of 'the director's cut' of a film or a corrected text of a book in which material edited out is reinstated?.

But don't forget, the changes were supervised by Ridley Scott himself, and all FIVE versions of the film are on Blu-ray, so there's no issue. If Hammer were giving us both the original and the new tampered version there wouldn't be an issue either, but they're not, so they can get stuffed!
