I can understand their view of The Exorcist being pro-chuch, though I don't think it really is. It's more about the loss of faith and then unable to confront evil. I mean, c'mon, to all intents and purposes the exorcism fails spectacularly leaving both priests dead. Didn't anyone think it strange that two grown men enter a young girls' room and one dies in the room and the other hurls himself out the window? Didn't the police investigate that? In my eyes, the film is as much about the failure of the church as it is pro-catholicism.

I guess the chances of Arrow being able to licence both The Devils and The Keep remains the stuff that dreams are made of....

Here's hoping, anyway.

Unfortunately Warners are one of those studios that don't license out their films.

And yet, they licensed Ms 45 out to that French mob.
Or am I missing something here....

They could license out the uncut Director's cut and see how it goes.....when they see it raking in the money, they could do the inevitable 'PRODUCER'S DIRECTOR'S LOST RESTORED UNCUT RE-EDITED SUPERLY DUPERLY REMASTERED ****-OFF 20TH,30TH,40TH COLLECTOR'S LIMITED EDITION.........

Warner were only the Distributors for vhs etc in certain territories, which is probably why the French disc is from another company now.

Ms. 45 was made by Navaron Films, Warner simply picked up distribution rights, it's not one of their own films, so they don't own it as such. As such, their license in France probably expired, which is why someone else can release it now.

However, I also note that Warners were only distributors for The Devils, the production company being Russo Productions. Perhaps they made the film exclusively for Warners, which is why they have such a hold over it..? Who knows? But one thing is for certain, they need to release it. It's not fair to withhold it from the fans. Not fair at all. I don't care what the religious Right think, I just want to own the fully restored version on DVD. To me, that's all that matters. Why politicise the issue?

Well said Daemonia. There have been far more political films released than The Devils (Basic Instinct and Million Dollar Baby immediately spring to mind) and, though they were subject to some pressure group picketing, it didn't stop them from being immensely successful, both critically and commercially.

Anyone who wants to see the film uncut legitimately needs to sign this petition immediately.

The Devils (1971) Special Edition, Uncut, remastered DVD release. - Signatures

in fact, get EVERYONE YOU KNOW to sign, maybe then warners will take notice. Otherwise forget ever seeing this movie uncut legitimately.
