Just a warning for anyone contemplating buying the Spanish DVD of "House of the Long Shadows" (called "La casa de las sombras del pasado"), which was released in December 2011: DON'T! It does have English audio and removable Spanish subtitles, but.... The print seems to be the same as the US MGM MOD one, i.e. it is in 1.33:1 and so dark that it is really impossible to see what's going on for most of the time (even if you boost your contrast, backlight and brightness settings). It seems to be a NTSC-to-PAL conversion. However, the bizarre aspect of the DVD is that at the 89 min 54 sec mark suddenly 5 minutes of the English audio have been cut out/removed! And the video just continues, but with the dialogue and sounds which belong 5 minutes later in the film! It goes on like this for the rest of the movie, with sound and dialogue completely out of sync with what is going on on-screen, and then the final 5 minutes of the movie are without any audio at all. (This happens both on playback in my stand-alone DVD player and in my PC.) I don't know if this is the same with all the copies or only mine, but I really wouldn't recommend anyone spending their time or money trying to find out, seeing how the DVD was really quite terrible even BEFORE the audio got messed up!

Hopefully not. As said above the MGM disc is abysmal.

Now getting a blu-ray release in Germany from Koch Media in September!  Let's hope it doesn't look schatten... Pete and Prince_Vajda like this. |

It's about time! REMASTERED! Not the US MGM print! Audio Commentary with Pete Walker AND A feature length documentary (with a few treats!)  The shadows have a few tales to tell! I am proud to say my brother created these special features for this release! Go PRE ORDER! |
