Wasn't Green inferno the film the crew were shooting in cannibal holocaust before they got killed? (or was it one of the films they had made previously, I'm going to have to dig out Holocaust and watch it again.) Either way I hope this is going to be good. Considering how long its been since he actually shot a film and some of the drek he's been in over the last six years its sometime easy to forget that Eli Roth is actually a pretty good director. Sure he kick started the torture porn sub-genre, but Hostel actually was supported by a great central premise. The tourists that look to exploit the locals for easy sex/drugs ending up exploited themselves. Cabin Fever was also great fun as well. I just hope they treat the locals fairly (i'm sure they will) as one of the best things about the Deadoto film was how most of what happens was the fault of the white Europeans... |

I totally agree. I only really like Cabin Fever out of the three films he's directed and recently he's had more of an interest in helping others get their film out through attaching his name (which is a great thing, don't get me wrong) but I really want to like this as I appreciate his enthusiasm for the genre. |

If Eli roth made this into a movie it would've been brilliant.

I was just trying to be funny - as in pointing out that Roth is no Deodato and never will be. Saying that, I liked Cabin Fever and Hostel Part 2 (preferred it to the first one). So I'm actually really looking forward to this - it's about time the cannibal sub-genre got a reboot. I do wonder if it will be as ferocious and unrelenting as its predecessors....if it is, modern audiences are in for one hell of a battering!

For years I had the idea to do a screenplay about an Italian film crew making a cannibal film – a once great Giallo director now washed up is hired by a fly-by-night Eurociné-style group to make a cannibal film. The film-within-film is made in a remote stretch jungle but the production is dogged by hellish terrain, bad weather and a difficult leading man refusing to slaughter animals on camera. When financing falls through midway, (film was to be set in the early 80’s as the genre was dying out) the film gets progressively weirder and more hallucinatory... There was a real mess of different influences going on – the Italian Cannibal cycle, Apocalypse Now, Aguirre Wrath of God (my diva director was to be along the lines of a tantrum throwing Klaus Kinski), and a bunch of moviemaking-is-hell films like The State of Things, Living In Oblivion, Irma Vep, The Last Movie, and all of it overlaid with a Boogie Nights style period sweep. I went to start this screenplay many times but it never went anywhere – honestly I have no idea about the science of writing a screenplay, a minute per page etc. Tentatively and terribly titled The Green Hell...

Or as WC Fields once said: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it
