City Of The Living Dead was cut for video by an additional minute on top of the cinema cuts, despite it not being a video nasty. I saw Cemetery on the cinema and even though it was cut (by 1½ mins) it was nothing compared to the massacred video prints.

Ferman just had a grudge against certain films and certain directors. Fulci being one of them.

He really hated Fulci!

The Beyond, Conquest, Contraband and Zombie Flesh Eaters all butchered. I think Voices From Beyond was the only one not to get cut. I think..

The lengh he went to stop New York Ripper ever getting released was just ludicrous!

He had it smuggled out of the country.

I remember his reasoning behind refusing The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 18 certificates were along the lines of "It's really good but you can't see it because you'll be mentally damaged"... the man was insane.

I'm convinced he and Mary Whitehouse were 2 of the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse!

Ferman seemed to think that he was doing us a favour rejecting and cutting these films - sparing us all the horrors.

Conquest,
Bizarrely the pre-cert of "Conquest" was actually cut far more than the '18' cert rental later.
In the pre-cert the ENTIRE footage of the guy getting sicker, with the boils, was removed. It's one of the most butchered pre-certs this side of "Maniac".

I spoke to him on the phone once back in the mid-90's as research for a magazine article. He was very amenable to begin with and easy to chat to about censorship. When I mentioned The Exorcist and Straw Dogs though he became an entirely different person. Both standoffish and patronising for reasons completely unknown. Genuinely bizarre behaviour.

If you watch the documentary Ban the Sadist Videos, there are great examples of how Ferman cut the films. It's hilarious!

And it's still the situation these days, even more so with the advent of the internet and the ease of gettiing your favourite uncut films with a few clicks of a button.
