At any rate, I pay little attention to screen-grabs as they don't give a true representation of the moving image. I'll probably double-dip on the French Blu anyway at some point, as many people have commented that it is a very decent release (barring the forced subs and, I think, a scene involving the pixelation of a arm (?)) |

You have the right to not give full credit to screen-grabs but I can assure you the image is like that... just beautiful. Yes, there´s forced subs but they are so damn little you quickly forget about them. The pixelation is on screen 19 and only happen for less than a second, you just don´t notice it if you don´t know about it. Believe me, the French release is more than decent. |

Yeah, my mate's a huge 'Pred' fan so I watched his Blu 'Hunter edition', Arnie and the boys look like Madame Tussauds waxworks, and I never knew the Predator had a anti-grain weapon And people whinge about 'Tenebrae'

Whilst the French release is undoubtedly superior in its image quality, I'd rather watch my parents have sex than sit through another forced subs English language film. Pulp Fiction was enough for me.

I know this is the "Technicaly Speaking" thread of Tenebrae - but sometimes I feel like some people really love to look for the fly in the ointment. Keep talking about grain, pixelation, or whatever - but there's only one conclusion when looking at the respective screenshots of the French and the Arrow release - both look more than acceptable for a movie that is nearly thirty years old. The French release may look slightly better when you hit the "Pause" button - the only question is, how often do I do this while watching a flick? As for the forced subs of the French release - as I said before, a real movie buff very often does not care about such itty bitty things. The fact that they are forced - well, that's an ugly thing (as is a riot - anyone got that? ). But as long as it ain't no Porn ad, I don't mind what they put at the bottom of the picture. After a few seconds, I don't even notice they're are there. How about Hard Boiled then? - I don't wanna know how many people here switched to the original Cantonese and activated the English subs. I know, there's a difference. The trouble is: we don't like being forced to do something. It's not the subs themselves that make us angry - it's the fact that we can't turn them off. But there's an easy remedy for that: simply buy the Arrow Edition - it's not worse than the French release (I would even say that it's a lot better in many respects). I personally would never buy the Frogs' edition for another reason (I think I posted that before, too) - and that would be that horrible cover. It gives the impression that the flick has been shot in 2011. Just my two cents. Greetings! PS: As for any French members here: many apologies. I love your wine and your sublime scenery. PPS: We can clearly see by now that it's also a question of personal taste - how can this fool say he won't buy a release because of the cover? |

I watched the French disk last week, was blown away by the clarity. I personally think it is the most astonishing print I have in my collection (possibly!!). Also the film is AWESOME! The forced subs are a plus for me as I tend to watch films with my other half who needs them.
