Now someone has mentioned it, I really want Maniac. Never got round to ordering the US blu-ray. I think the remake is out early next year too, so the timing would be right.

It better be Fulci and "Zombie 3", or there will be hell to pay

The US blu-ray is not worth upgrading to. Compared to the THX DVD transfer, the blacklevel is way off making it milky gray instead of black, the contrast suffers and details in darker scenes is drowned out, and the colors have been altered to shit on the new transfer. Also there is barely any gain in finedetails over the DVD, which might be because of some DNR. Especially since there is barely any grain, even though it´s 16mm blown up to 35mm.

What really is an annoying punch in the face, is that the HD trailer on the Maniac disc looks WAY better than the movie itself. with perfect colors, filmgrain and blacklevel/contrast. Lustig probably ****ed up pretty hard during the mastering of the movie.

The only thing worth upgrading for is the new extras.

Maybe Arrow could give it the transfer it deserves?

High Rising Productions recently sat down with Scott Spiegel to talk about one of our upcoming releases
Seems you have to be on Facebook to know anything. Can you remember the last time a big Arrow announcement was premiered on Cult Labs first? And we're supposed to be the 'voice of the fans', but always the last to know...

I think his point was that it doesn't say the interview was regarding one of Spiegel's films - he could've been discussing a different film.

True enough. But why track him down unless they were interviewing him about something he was involved in?

And, actually, if I think more on it, and consider the Raimi connection - could the upcoming release possibly be Evil Dead 2?
Hawkmonger and Criterion7 like this.

Why track Joe Dante down to talk about someone elses film either, but they did it.

And yes, I meant Spiegel could be talking about any film.
