Yes, Deodato got the entire cast and crew to lie low to add an aura of mystery (and generate bigger box office receipts, no doubt ).

I've always found it strange that some viewers of Cannibal Holocaust rage on about the animals and yet never even bat an eye at the Road To Hell sequence which features real human executions! Some weird standards emerging there, I think.

And it's also interesting to note that having completed the film, Deodato invited the mighty Sergio Leone round for a private screening. Leone told him it was a masterpiece - but that it would get him in a lot of trouble! He wasn't far wrong.
