I'm not so sure, Vin. I think the sadism of Hauer's character would still be problematic for the BBFC and that there is no rationale for his actions. I reckon if re-submitted now it would still get an 18 rating IMO. But what do I know? The BBFC are by and large something of a mystery to me.

It's definitely a fringe title. The (abysmal) remake suffered minor classification cuts for cinema, though the DVD was upgraded to 18 and uncut.
