Oasis of Fear will probably get put back a teeny bit but that's due to finding more footage and us rashly trying to assemble a complete English track...

The latest on Designated Victim is that it is going back (boo) but this is the final move (hmm) and it's all because we have been trying to assemble our first Shameless Fan Edition DVD. What might this be you ask... Well it's where we collaborate with a serious heavyweight fan of a film to produce something a bit more special. The fan in this instance is Stefan Novak who is an expert on Designated Victim. Also we've had Marc Morris working on helping up to put together this release.

Here's the press release:

JUST HOW PERFECT IS YOUR PLAN?

A true high point in 70s Italian thriller cinema, this inspired remake of Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train from director Maurizio Lucidi is able to push the concept of the original movie into something far more unbearably tense and deliciously twisted.

Stefano (Tomas Milian; Traffic, Amistad, JFK) needs to sort out his troublesome wife who is seriously cramping his future plans. A chance meeting with a wealthy Count Matteo (Pierre Clemente) leads to an extraordinary plan where both will do each other a murderous favour to free them from the people who ail them. The problem is Stefano treats this as a joke whilst Matteo is deadly serious and what he does drives Stefano to the edge of sanity in a gripping race against time!

Shot in a mist-wreathed eerily beautiful Venice this near dream-like melding of thriller with baroque giallo overtones has remained until now a criminally hidden psychological gem.

The Designated Victim (cert. 18) will be released uncut in a brand new edit as a 'Fan Edition' DVD (?12.99) by Shameless Screen Entertainment on 27th October 2008. The film will be presented remastered in 2.35:1 with optional English and Italian audio tracks and English subtitles. Also included on the disc will be a Shameless Fact Track by Stefan Novak, deleted scenes, Collector's Art Gallery, original theatrical trailer and a Shameless original trailer gallery.

and here's the new trailer

Sorry if this is a bit of a cheeky (and potentially stupid) question, but I've just watched the trailer. Where it reads "Shameless Fan Edition" underneath "The Designated Victim" on the title card, is that for the purposes of the trailer only, or will it presented as such on the actual dvd?

Other than that, it's all looking top notch! Can't wait for the next slew of Shameless releases, been gagging for them for ages!

Better to have it late and looking it's best than rush it out and cut corners.

Looking forward to this release, especially the 'fact track'

Ah no it just says that on the trailer - not on the film. I just couldn't bear to call the DVD a 'Special Edition', 'Collector's Edition', 'Special Collector's Edition', 'Ultimate Edition' or other such guff that has become meaningless over the years. If we call something 'Fan edition' it'll be something aimed at our hardcore fan base and likely driven by and/or involving serious fan input.

Delaying discs has seriously annoyed us but hopefully the wait will have been worth it and we're revamping our production process for next year so we can get back to releasing more films - sooner! Well, in theory... it's never easy with crazy old movies.

Yeah I'll be interested to get feedback on the fact track - it's something I've long wanted to do but it may take some tinkering to get right as an extra on future releases.
