Because they weren't massively in circulation at the time, and they changed the connector for the Wii , meaning you couldn't just use that one like on the old Nintendo base units.

British heart foundation have started doing furniture/electrical shops on the highstreet, you can get an older non HD telly dirt cheap, i'm looking at getting a ps2 and picking up some classic horror titles. (project zero, silent hill 2 ect ect...)
