Picked up the following in HMV.

Spasmo
Blastfighter
Hard To Be A God
The Tribe
The Dance Of Reality (my favourite film of the year thus far).

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 14th September 2015 09:04 AM

Great pick-ups.

As a massive Jodorowsky fan I'm very much looking forward to seeing The Dance of Reality.

Frankenhooker 14th September 2015 09:16 AM

The Dance Of Reality really is great, been a brilliant year for film so far.

HMV are reasonably priced now, just over £55 for the lot (four Blurays and a DVD).

My mate sent me a TXT that he has been given 6 boxes of house clearance stuff off a family member thats been in storage for over a decade, there's a load of 'US ntsc video tapes' bought in the 80s-90s when they worked in the U.S. reckons there's quite a few horror/splatter type films, hoping to find some grindhouse classics like these amongst em... could be a boozy VHS night coming up:pop2:

Hi,
it has been a long time since I posted here! Found some pretty good deals on amazon.de:
- Angustia (Im Augenblick der Angst, German titles sound great)
- The haunting (Bis das Blut gefriert, sounds even better)
- The Masque of the Red Death (Die Maske des roten Todes, uninspiring translation this one!)
- Black Christmas (they didn't bother to translate this title)

All blu's! Looking forward to watching them.

That's been OOP for a while and the price fluctuates on Amazon, you're lucky to get it for so cheap, I've been keeping my eyes out for a sub £10 one.

demonknight 16th September 2015 02:15 PM

Two arrivals today. Twelve Monkeys and Event Horizon, from Universal and Paramount respectively, both in HD.

Demoncrat 16th September 2015 03:51 PM

It's probably an ex-rental – the box isn't exactly pristine! I also have a Betamax sleeve, which I bought separately some time ago, so it'll be interesting to dig that out and see if they are different sizes.

Having said that, there aren't any marks indicating it was rented at any point, so it could have been a shop-bought one.

Interesting to see it has a black and white cover when another one on eBay (£80!) has a yellow and white one.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 17th September 2015 02:19 PM

Bizarrely, the Betamax of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is in a proper Betamax case, but has a VHS sleeve. Maybe the logical (and best) thing to do is to swap the case is over.

That is unless someone knows where replacement Betamax boxes can be bought!

Exorcist was released with a big box in both beta and vhs. ;)
There should be a plastic thingy inside the case to make the beta fit.
Have a look on eBay for cheap old Warner beta cases (with or without tape) otherwise.

The first Warner boxes were 'Dual' if I remember rightly.
The VHS fitted in one way and the Beta the opposite.;)

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 17th September 2015 08:34 PM

Take the tape out Nos-if it's an original box,VHS,BETA and maybe even V2000 should be embossed in the case in small writing.;)

That's exactly how it is on the right hand side, with Warner Home Video on the inside of the lid.

mr 420 18th September 2015 08:38 AM

I managed to pick up a few bargains in the last few days. While in CEX I picked up the Warner triple bill of The Cars That Ate Paris, The Legend of Hell House and The Fall of The House of Usher, Momentum's Paris Lockdown (Any good?) and The Fratellis - Live In Brixton all for £3.

Then a couple of days later when I was walking past the local Oxfam, I decided that I should have a quick browse and came out with Liquid Sky on VTC and Night of the Demon on Iver. It just goes to show that there are gems to be found if you look hard enough. BTW, Oxfam only wanted a pound each for the tapes, but I gave them a fiver just so I didn't feel like I robbed a charity shop.:)

Frankenhooker 18th September 2015 09:43 AM

What's the deal with the certification on 'How To Be A God' ? Trebor's picture shows a 15 certificate, Amazon have it listed as a 15 certificate as does HMV's site, yet I bought it in HMV and it's certificated 18.

bdc 18th September 2015 12:12 PM

Oldies but goldies dvd arrived.
