What a day!

I went out with the sole intention of finishing my Christmas shopping for my family and...well, I am sure you can guess! They shouldn't have put a CEX right by the station!

DVDs

Gremlins
Long Weekend (remake)
The Deer Hunter
28 Days Later (not really a fan, but it's on my "rewatch and reappraise" list)
House Of Wax (the silly recent one, never seen it and it was only £1.50)
Million Dollar Baby
Inland Empire

Blu-Rays

Gran Torino
Bad Lieutenant: Port Of New Orleans
Sharkwater

Then I get home to find the post has brought:

Bay Of Blood (Blu-ray)
and the Hong Kong DVD releases of
Godzilla vs Biollante
Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla
Godzilla vs Mothra

Oh yes...

PaulD 24th December 2010 10:00 AM

Yeah brilliant stuff for the price I had never seen several of these but THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, IRON CURTAIN and ROPE are my favourite of his 'not massively famous' films included in this set. Jimmy Stewart was a phenomenal actor!

Recent Blu purchases:

John Carpenter's Vampires (French Blu)

JCVD (bought after all the positive comments I read here & a bargain at £3.99)

I also thought that Black Water was really good, not quite up there with Rogue (directed by Greg McLean), but a really intense horror/thriller with a 'what should you do?' scenario

Picked up Piranha as well. I was going to get the US disc but then saw that the UK disc also included an anaglyph 3D version as well as the 2D and newfangled 3D version.

Some nice 70s sex comedies in that little lot - the Adventures of films and Ups and Downs of a Handyman are good fun but not seen the others. ...Handyman has what must be the most irritatingly catchy theme tune in celluloid history

Yeah thats the one Inspector. Just put it on and it's watchable, that's about all I can say  The sooner I get a 3D tv/BD player, the better!

Do you now own all of the Shameless DVDs, Eurosleaze? There were a great many in your latest haul.

There's a new DE blu of Running Man that is the same and I am a little put off by it being anaglyph 3D. Is it truly watch-able? I.e. Would it not be green and red?

bdc 29th December 2010 06:50 PM

Anaglyph is always green/blue and red...
You will definitely notice the colors when watching.

And bit of ghosting in the image.

Yeah although it's not great, it's ok for those without "real" 3D (for the time being).

nekromantik 29th December 2010 07:17 PM

I heard that the 3D TVs give headaches to people that normally dont get it in the cinemas.
Mainly cause of the size difference I think.

It might just b me but I dont really want 3D unless I had a huge projection screen 90"+, cant see meself watchin 3D on 50" tv tbh.

nekromantik 29th December 2010 07:26 PM

nice :)

looks like u will be busy ha ha

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 29th December 2010 07:31 PM

Indeed, it is a fine selection of DVDs you have there, bizarre_eye. Were they were from one person or a variety of sources?

Sargento 29th December 2010 07:39 PM

Not quite the sleaze and arty titles recently posted, but today I bought:

Piranha 3D

Didn't bother with the BD as Brutes told me the movie was shite ... so plumpted for the DVD ... £9.99

I have watched it this evening and really enjoyed it! Daft gory fun .. too much dodgy CGI though. Why oh why do companies insist on releasing anaglyph red/blue 3D on DVD when the technology doesn't work on home TVs?

Bah!

Not really IMO, it is dark and at some points frustrating to actually make out things, doesn't really work as in - where's the 3D?, gives a headache, and generally spoils a perfectly good print of a film. My Bloody Valentine was like this but luckily provided a "clean print" on the disk.
I'm staying well clear for now.
