The confusion comes from the fact that the first academy awards had no Best Picture award in 1927 but two separate awards. 'Most Outstanding Production' was won by 'Wings' and 'Most Artistic Quality of Production' was won by Murnau's 'Sunrise - A Song of Two Humans' | So that's what led to the bizarre listing of the 1927 Oscar going to 'Sunrise Wings'! I knew about the award won by Murnau's film but, until searching for a list, hadn't heard of any of the winners from that year apart from the first Best Actor Oscar been won by Emil Jannings as one of those weird pieces of trivia which is usually stored away in the 'useless information' section of your brain! |
