I wondered if someone would comment on the Predator blu. I've been put.off getting it for a while by the poor reviews this disc gets. Must be honest I've not watched it end to end yet but having a flick through I don't think it looks that bad at all. I admit though some of the close ups of faces, particularly at the start and particularly Carl Weathers do look so smoothed out as to appear almost CGI. Probably helps that I'm not fond of grain.

I got it in a deal from HMV and although I've only watched it once, I didn't think it looked as bad as people were making out, certainly not unwatchable by any means, but they do look like waxworks!

Agree. From what I gather there isn't a really good blu of Predator out there yet.

I think the other UK one has better PQ, but lacks the extras

I thought the other one had a lot of flack for having an overly grainy picture? Hence Fox going into DNR overkill on this version?

Yeah, the film stock used to shoot it, resulted in a pretty grainy image. People complained that it was too grainy, so Fox went crazy with the special edition disc. I prefer the first disc as it's more faithful to what you would've seen at the cinema. I'll always take that over DNR.

What Stephen said.

Predator is a movie from 1987, shot on normal film.

The original UK Blu-ray preserves the original (i.e. rough and grainy) look of the movie. That's the way it should be.

'Nuff said.
