Thanks to everyone for your interesting and varied lists of horror icons. Because the electricity has gone off where I live for about 5 hours, I'm posting this on my phone and am not sure how well it will turn out!

For this week, I'll use another of nosferatu42's suggestions and ask you to look at all the animated films from around the world you love.

ANIMATED FILMS

I'll sit this one out as aside from A Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story 3 and The Corpse Bride i don't particularly love any animated films.

One of my favourite subjects! I found it hard to not just do 10 Ghibli films!

  1. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
  2. My Life as a Courgette (2016)
  3. Porco Rosso (1992)
  4. Toy Story 3 (2010)
  5. Your Name. (2016)
  6. Akira (1988)
  7. Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
  8. Finding Nemo (2003)
  9. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
  10. Summer Wars (2009)

An alternative topic for those who, like Demdike, are not fans of animated films is for those comedies, whether by John Hughes or someone else, which are set in an American high school. They don't have to be pure comedies as long as they have a comedic element and wouldn't fit into drama or horror catagories.

If you feel like it, you could do a list for both topics this week!

AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL COMEDIES

To paraphrase a famous saying, you can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time!

Top 10 AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL COMEDIES

Dazed and Confused (1993)
American Graffiti (1973)
Mean Girls (2004)
Van Wilder: Party Liaison (2002)
EuroTrip (2004)
Bring It On (2000)
The House Bunny (2008)
Jawbreaker (1999)
Saved! (2004)*
Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj (2006)

Now here's the problem. I really like American College Comedies and have loads in my collection. The problem is until i begin to watch them they all blend into one. I can't tell the American Pie films apart but know i like them all, even the DTV sequels. The same goes for films like Cattle Call, Miss March, Cougar Club and so on. I used to rate Clueless very highly but it's years since i last saw it and i fear it may have dated quite badly due to the language used.

American Graffiti, Dazed and Confused and Mean Girls head the list as they are all genuine classic films that get better with each viewing, the rest are just personal choices that stand out from the crowd.

I've got to go out today, but will try to sort out a list tonight.

As a thought for Dem and other who don't like pure animation films there are plenty of films featuring stop motion animation such as King Kong, Sinbad films / Jason and the Argonauts, fiend without a face and Evil dead 1 etc.

I watched both Clueless and Bring It On very recently and I can say they both still really hold up. I also watched The Breakfast Club and still really enjoyed it!

Saved is on my 'to watch...' list and I hope to get around to it very soon.

My list is very similar to Dem's so I wont post it, suffice to say I'd replace the two Van wilder's, The House Bunny and Saved (not seen them) with Easy A, Clueless, The Breakfast Club and stretching it a bit Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion!

Although very nearly's would include Fast Times at Ridgemont High, She's All That, Cruel Intentions (not a comedy), Ferris Bueller and Sixteen Candles!
