My local video rental store didn't give two s**ts. I walked in with my dads rental card and took it out myself!

Made it out to see Pacific Rim tonight. I loved every minute of it. Del Toro has made a huge fun spectacle of a film. Yes it's a bit silly but it doesn't take itself too seriously and sets out to do what it promises. Giant robots beating the poop out of giant monsters!!

They didn't have it in mine (they too didn't give a shit what I rented because my parents rang them and approved anything besides porn ha ha), I had to get it from the main library in Halifax, which has an awesome Horror section

The bloke who ran my local off-license just ordered anything horror or action related. Lots of straight to video violence! That said my local library was none too shabby either, got all the night of the demons films, ticks and a whole ton of other stuff from there. The main advantage over the offy was they had a lot of world cinema stuff as well. Lots of Arthouse and indie films. I discovered Hal Hartly, Atom egoyan, John Woo, Kevin smith, John Waters and many many others renting out there,.

Yeah, our local vid shop was mint, the owner used to give me any posters I wanted once the film wasn't classed as a new release, sadly they're all long gone, as is the shop which is now a bloody house!

Very Prog! Keith Emerson is one of rock music's finest keyboard players and a "Nice" guy (see what I did there, founder member of "The Nice") I met him after a gig in Reading and he was a very pleasant chap, though a little full of himself (and he has every right to be)! So good that I left the music in the quote in case anyone wants to listen again (not through laziness 'cos it'd've been easier t' take 'em out than type this lot out)!

Watched the feature length first volume of Todd Mcfarland's "Spawn" tonight. Absolute cracker with stylish animation and a well paced story. I may have to look for the rest of 'em!

I watched it with my mum too!!, my parents split up and i'd see my mum once a fortnight. She'd let me rent a couple of movies. Saw lot's of great film's with her for the first time. Suspiria, Inferno, Alien's, Evil dead 2, Conan the Barbarian, the Terminator, Basket case, Demons, Return of the living dead, Time Bandit's, Hardware, The Hitcher, Naked Lunch, The Beyond, Wild at heart & Blue Velvet.
To name just a few.
Those were the days, makes me feel sad for kid's these days.
Used to love going into the video store to see what new treasures could be unearthed.
She never used to say much as to my choices, probably thought she'd brought up some kinda nutcase.( she wouldn't have been too far wrong)
As long as there wasn't too many drugs or sex she was fine. (she didn't appreciate the Doors film much though, then again maybe it was the music!!)
It wasn't all crazy stuff though, i used to cushion it with the odd worthy film- Braveheart etc. (although not many of these remained in my memory for long)

I meant she wasn't impressed about renting it for me, if I'd watched it with my parents I reckon I'd have been packed off to boarding school
