I will never understand why Solange is rated so highly. It's boring, overlong, full of dull characters, has a crap plot and absolutely nothing happens in it.

As overrated as anything David Fincher has ever done, and that really is saying something.

Oh and loops, how can you like giallos but not slashers? Slashers are a zillion times more entertaining than giallos IMO.

"Sukiyaki Western Django" - The word strange often goes without saying when it comes to a Takeshi Miike film, and this has to be one of his strangest. This looks like a Western with a lot of Japanese/Samurai references thrown in. All the film credits and songs are in Japanese, yet all the characters speak in English, with some obviously speaking their lines phonetically. The violence is very stylised. It’s easily the most outlandish looking since Sam Raimi's "The Quick And The Dead". My first impression of this is that it may well be worth watching more than once as there is quite a bit of plot to take in. The visual style at times is almost cartoon-like with incredible colours used as background. This is without doubt one of those Marmite films. You're either going to love it, lapping up every tasty minute of weirdness or you’ll spit it out rather quickly. Quentin Tarantino crops up in a cameo role that is quite funny too……… But don’t let that put you off.

I'm pretty sure the slasher wouldn't exist without the giallo, correct me if I'm wrong. Well, maybe it would exist but, ehm...

I always felt the slasher movie was an attempt at "Hollywoodising" the giallo, though the slasher flicks have taken on a life of their own.

What was the first slasher movie?

Halloween?

If so, was Carpenter inspired by giallo?

I'd say it was Bava's Bay of Blood, but then again a lot of people label that a giallo...

The excellent Haunted House Of Horror would be an early candidate.
