Whilst i can't really make a case for The Horseman being my favourite Aussie film it's probably my fave Aussie revenge flick. At times very brutal it's a throwback to the exploiters of the 70's.

The story is a familiar one. - A guy out for revenge when he finds his murdered daughter was killed whilst drugged out and forced to star in a porn movie. However despite the seen it all before main plot it's all done with conviction in that distinct Australian style that allows films from that country to stand out from their Hollywood counterparts.
I really liked this too.

I actually watched it the other night and honestly was left a little disappointed. Well, 'disappointed' is probably the wrong word to use as I didn't really have very high expectations going in other than that I knew it was getting quite a bit of acclaim on here as well as other places.

It was certainly a well-made film in many respects, but I feel the script and in particular some of the acting let it down. Despite it being quite short (I was actually surprised to see a high profile modern film clock in under two hours!!) it still felt a little overlong and drawn out in places. I didn't dislike it though, and on balance there was probably more positive aspects than negative... it's just that I couldn't ignore the negative.

My favourite Aussie film remains Picnic at Hanging Rock... Bad Boy Bubby would be a close second though.
Still got this to watch but each time I get it out to view, I think nah and put it back.

I'd go for 'The cars that ate paris' (is that aussy or kiwi?) OR the proposition. EDIT: now i see a poll asking to choose a film... wow, I would pick mad max by default.

Obviously that poll was done way back in the dark ages of CL when 10 was the poll limit!

WAKE IN FRIGHT is another astounding tale from down under!
