Came across these two while on zavvi, never seen or heard of either and a little out of my comfort zone

It's a film about desperation,a drama...so it could be seen as depressing I guess.

Don't know if it's my cup of tea from what I've read, but it is supposed to be a excellent film, the other one sound more my type.

Rififi is superb, there's a particular silent scene that had me on the edge of my seat, watch it and enjoy. Bicycle Thieves is great too.
