Watched Straight On Till Morning recently. Really rated it. Much more going on in it than I remembered from seeing it on telly a very long time ago. The Hammer Collection DVD looks spectacular too. |

I was coming on here to say this, bought it and watched it recently and thought it was fantastic. That pub in it was stunning. Great plot, great actors.

I love this film, it's something about the house he lives in that does it for me and Rita Tushingham, I love her in everything.

Came across the 1949 film Obsession (The Hidden Room) the other week. Cracking little thriller, like a stiff-upper-lipped version of Saw (kind of ). A memorable performance by Robert Newton as a vengeful husband who chains up his wife's bit on the side in a secret basement lair with an acid bath! Well worth checking out . . .

Lots of great films and recommendations on this thread, and it reminds me that I've fallen well behind on my BFI Flipsides lately... I really enjoyed Herostratus from 1967 - fantastic visuals, inspired doses of weirdness, and one of the most beautiful actresses I've seen in many a while... Less esoteric, but also worthwhile, 1961's Day the Earth Caught Fire is one of the best films Hammer should have made, as Val Guest sets the controls for the heart of the sun. Great dialogue, fine performances, and beautifully photographed in b/w 'scope, this is essential viewing for fans of intelligent adult sci-fi. There's a good DVD courstesy of Network...

On a different note, 'The Black Panther' is definitely IMO another 'British Gem' and deserves to be seen in its new incarnation from BFI. |

I'll second that.
