This song used to really disturb me when I was a kid.
Why?

Oh man, doesn't the video say it all?
Seriously, I think the tone of the song is really bleak. The lyrics are as moronic as you'd expect, maybe with a twinge of regret about fantasies never being fulfilled which raises the level of sophistication by about a millimeter, but the 'emotional' communication seems really sad. Like if you transposed the lyrics with something about looking after terminally radiated survivors of a nuclear incident, it'd sound about right. That wail just before the chorus sounds really primal.
Although maybe I'm being a little subjective?
As well, when I was a kid, we had an awful family holiday - no, it wasn't that one where I was chased by a goose - and I remember hanging around a lot in the book section of a really depressing gift shop. On the racks were rows of Graham Masterton paperbacks, and I thought they had really disturbing covers, ones that gave me a really sinking feeling when I saw them. 'Fantasy Island' was playing on the radio throughout all this, and I think perceptions fused and merged until, in a Pavolvian kind of way, I'd get that same sinking, bereft feeling whenever I heard the song. Still do to this day.
Erm, for any more information you're just going to have to ask my analyst!
