I'm having a fairly chilled out day so far, currently on my second listen of this excellent two CD album:

Been doing paperwork this afternoon and had We're a Happy Family A Tribute to the Ramones on repeat play.

Its definitely my favourite compilation / covers album of all time.

An official release and produced by Johnny Ramone and Rob Zombie, with liner notes by Stephen King.

The album features some of the biggest hitters in rock music today. Metallica, Green Day. U2, Kiss, The Pretenders, Eddie Vedder, Marilyn Manson, Garbage, The Offspring and Tom Waits are all here with excellent renditions of classic Ramones songs. My favourite on the album is Havana Affair, with its chilled out vibe, the Red Hot Chili Peppers make it their own.

Highly recommended to Ramones fans and those wanting a very cool compilation album.

It sounds really good and one which I'm sure to enjoy, so will buy it sooner rather than later.

I've listened to this a couple of times in full. The album features some great guitar work from Tony Iommi, some fine melodies and brutal riffing. Ozzy's voice is also the best i've heard since No Rest for the Wicked. God knows what he'll sound like live though. Rick Rubin's production job is first class as well.

The album borrows many ideas and signatures from past Sabbath masterpieces and still sounds relevant today...

.... but, Dear Father aside, where the hell are the songs?

There's not a chorus, tune, nothing, i can recall and the cd has only just finished.

Sabbath have always written songs that crowds go wild to - Paranoid, NIB, Children of the Grave, Never Say Die, Into the Void, Killing Yourself to Live etc, etc, etc. There's nothing like them here unfortunately. Maybe time will prove me wrong, i hope so.
After a week with this i still stand by every word.

I've just listened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' cover of Havana Affair – it's brilliant!

In terms of song writing i don't think its a patch on the Heaven and Hell album The Devil You Know from a few years ago.

Better production though i must admit.
