Ah another nice XT release there Reaps! Here's a bit of a history of the German hardbox: seems X-Rated was the first company to use hardboxes and about 5 or 6 years later other companies also started releasing them. Some of the hardbox releases are just a new hardbox with an already existing disc (from another company) which can be a bit confusing for people just starting out collecting these. For example: I started watching the Simple Movie Blutige Magie yesterday and when I opened the box I noticed it's a repack of the X-NK disc (Das Geheimnis des magischen Kreises)! This makes that sometimes hardboxes are sold (by collectors or dealers) without the disc because you can get it from another release and the hardbox itself is the only thing you really need. Some hardboxes are very limited for example there's an X-Rated retro cover release limited to 33 (seems at least 36 were made, maybe a little more?). These command high prices, for instance this limited to 33 sells for 200 Euro or more! Oh,and it's a repack! The hardbox is basically a bit of a nostalgia trip for collectors who like the way these resemble a vhs box. Some people would even like them to be exactly like the vhx boxes which would mean even more shelf space would be needed! Seems it's also a convenient way for companies to get rid of their overstock discs,a new hardbox is made and the discs sell out quickly. Yep hardboxes are something strange and wonderful. Here's an example of how crazy it can get sometimes: |

I wouldn't say they are confusing at all to be honest, you've just got to get to grips with whats what and all of the different labels out there. With hardboxes, companies are stealing other companies discs all the time, it's pretty common practice. That guy in the video obviously had no idea, if he just wants the disc why doesn't he buy the standard film. F*** ups like that always happen in the world of hardboxes and disc stealing, your not buying them for the film, it's about the packaging and artwork etc. |

@ bdc: Nice info about the hardboxes. I have a couple where the discs don't match the distributor, but I'm all about the boxes... I probably wouldn't care if they didn't have a disc in at all! I have the 'Limited 1,5 DVD Set' X-Rated release of Das Geheimnis des Magischen Kreises, and the main disc is the one you mentioned above bdc, with the alternate red, robed monk cover art on it (which release, I think loops said he picked up the other day). I think that Simpel Movie were X-NK's distributor in Austria (?) though, so I'm guessing that most of their releases will be re-packages of original X-Rated discs. |

My Höllenjagd auf heisse Ware has a Simple Movie disc. So seems they do make discs as well. They probably didn't own the rights for Blutige Magie (Das Geheimnis des Magischen Kreises). |
