Cult Labs - The 88 Films Thread

Just a quick post to say I have started watching Massacre in Dinosaur Valley (with the English track) and the running time is 1:27:31. In the hotel at the beginning, the cockfighting appears to have been slightly cut (I haven't seen the uncut version) so you hear the sounds and see the crowd reaction, but don't see any cockfighting.

Back to the movie.

Mine was delivered by Royal Mail as the postman put a card through the door saying he had left the package in the back porch.

Well, I just got an email from 88 saying mine has reached the warehouse, so the TNT delivery wasn't that.

Yeah, 88 said it was uncensored, then said all they meant was that they would be restoring the uncensored version, and they couldn't guarantee that the BBFC wouldn't cut it. Pretty naughty, fellas. [emoji23]

The money has been well spent on the restoration as, from this first viewing, I thought the picture quality was outstanding and the sound on the English dub was very clear without any pops, crackles, hiss, or anything else untoward.

As for the cockfighting, it's not something which bothered me even though I was "promised' and uncut/uncensored version of the film. The scene plays out very fluidly, similar to the re-edited animal violence-free sequences in the Shameless release of Cannibal Holocaust. I hope that makes sense.

I'll watch it again very soon with the Italian language track and then watch Calum Waddell's excellent documentary/audio essay for the first time on a big screen.
